Broadcasting Media: An Overview

Broadcasting media simply means that heard on radio and seen on television.

Radio medium depends on a process of sending sounds over a distance by transmitting electromagnetic signals.

Television is a system of sending audio visuals by electrical signals over a distance so that people can receive them through their TV sets.

Main advantages of broadcasting media is that they are able to provide information immediately with sounds, visuals or both.

Radio and Television in Nepal Radio broadcasting started

in Nepal to wage war for democracy on 14 Dec. 1950. later it became the first radio broadcasting transmitter of Nepal named as Nepal Radio officially from 2nd April 1951.

With the establishment of Radio Sagarmatha as the community radio FM band in 1997. the history of non governmental radio began in Nepal.

The need of national television channel was felt to under Panchayat system. So a project under leadership of Nir Shah was started in January 30,1985.

Ending the 16 years long Virtual Monopoly of state run NTV, the private televison channels appeared one by another. Including the terrestrial and satellite broadcasting. Channel Nepal which started the satellite broadcasting is the debut in this run.

Analysis on practice of media broadcasting

Apart from providing information, broadcast media are a highly influential medium of communicating in shaping public opinion, changing social attitudes, entertaining people and bringing about social integration in a society full of diversity.

Lack of training, poor professional standards , lack of investment into investigative reporting and the non implementation of the statutes and Acts make it difficult and sometimes impossible for journalist to access, impart or disseminate accurate information.

Political information is dominant on broadcast media these days. if goes on like this, it may create threat to the nation.

There should be enough space for other area like development and investigative areas.
