It has all the superiorities to be expected of one ofthe oldest radio organizations, which has produced much of the high-grade commercial and Government apparatus. It has all the DX signalstrength that the neutrodyne principle achieves plus an aduio amplifierof distinct superiority. It will enthuse the most critical.

Learning the "Radio Lingo"Radio enthusiasts are criticized by

the uninitiated because of their abbre-viated linguistic manipulations. Theirlingo is not understood. And most peo-ple are suspicious of what they don'tunderstand.

Our candid advice is that the ignorantones learn this radio shorthand. Thereis an undeniable joy in using this jar-gon. These nicknames are an evidenceof familiarity with what was unknownto the past generation. Furthermore, just as two or three slang words canpicture an idea better than a whole par-agraph, so does the radio idiom moresuccinctly express what is meant.

A few of the commoner abbreviations, which everybody well might learn, indi-cate our meaning. Why say "broadcastlistener" when we can get the thoughtover with "BCL?', The whole story ofthe "amateur radio operator" is con-densed into "ham." If you are continu-ally using and talking about "continu-ous wave transmission" you can savetime by saying and writing "CW."

Think of the economy of using "MF" or"mfd" for microfarad, "milli" formilli -ampere or "DX" for long distancereception.

Besides these common expressionsthere is a long list of "Q" abbreviationsthat are used as conventions in interna-tional radio telegraphy and are equallyapplicable in radio telephone or broad-cast reception. Thus we have "QRM"to designate interference, "QST" as ageneral call to all stations, "QSL" as anacknowledgement that signals have beenreceived, and "QRN" to mean interfer-ence from static.

Radio, like any other new art, willalso introduce a number of new wordsinto future editions of the dictionaries.Even such coined trade names as neu-trodyne and magnavox are just as likelycandidates as kodak or comptometeronce were.

Furthermore, new meanings will begiven to old words such as broadcast.Whether this or the new proposal of"radiocast" will survive remains fortime to tell. Radiocast has much tocommend it and seems worthy of adop-tion.

A statement by GORDON C. SLEEPER:

The SLEEPER RADIO CORPORATION will shortlyannounce the new TYPE 54 MONOTROL.

In my opinion no set ever made so nearly meets theideas of 28,000 radio dealers in the United States as towhat they want to sell and what the public wants tobuy.

The TYPE 54 MONOTROL establishes new stand=

ards of engineering and mechanical design. It is thesupreme development of the GRIMES Inverse DuplexCircuit.

A Cabinet of Inlaid African Mahogany with the finishof a Steinway. A panel of etched bronze to please themost discriminating eye.

The new Sleeper DUAL Condenser used in this setallows tuned radio frequency on one dial, and by itssharp=tuned efficiency, points the way to obsolescenceof sets with two, three or more tuning dials.

The New Monotrol will operate on loop only, onground only, or on aerial and ground. It uses eitherstorage battery or dry cell tubes.

The set is the result of an entire year's research byDAVID GRIMES, Chief Engineer of the SLEEPER RA=

DlO CORPORATION, in collaboration with H. C.

DOYLE, Production Manager. It incorporates features that are an absolute chal=

lenge to the Radio Industry. The TYPE 54 MONOTROL is worth waiting for.

(Signed) GORDON C. SLEEPER, President.
