  • 4THIS IS THE BOOK WHICH LOOKS REALLY NICE, IS ALL ABOUT THE GREAT MUSIC SHOWCASING AT THE BRITISH MUSIC EMBASSY DURING SXSW 2014, AND IN THE UK WE STILL THINK THAT PRINT IS SEXIER THAN APPS.

Were delighted to be back here; we love Austin and over the years weve seen that Austin loves our music. In fact this year Austin, Texas is the sponsor of the prestigious NME Awards, and the legendary music mag NME host the closing showcase on Saturday night at the venue, with another mouth watering line up including Drenge, Bo Ningen, Fat White Family and Temples. All the shows you read about here happen at Latitude 30, a

venue weve come to love and look forward to hanging out at every year, checking out the latest great sounds from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, collectively called the UK.

Big up to all the hosts taking part this year: what all us hosts have in common is that we all love music. We all avidly search for new music online and at shows, find our favourites, and give them a platform

to shine and to play their music to a whole new audience on bigger stages; radio, online, live and help through funding opportunities.

Some highlights: Im delighted to have some of the bands I play on BBC Radio 1 playing on my Tuesday night showcase, Jungle, Wolf Alice and Sweet Baboo amongst them. Playing later in the week Scottish artists Nina Nesbitt, Casual

Sex and Young Fathers will be thrilling. Likewise Save Your Breath, Slaves and Holy Esque are awesome and heavy live. Legendary radio presenter Steve Lamacq returns to SXSW with some of his favourites on Thursday including Womans Hour and Royal Blood playing the BBC Introducing showcase. Temples, The Wytches and the thrilling avant-jazz band Melt Yourself Down promise some nothing short of exhilarating performances across

the week. That of course is the tip of the iceberg, just a flavour of the eclecticism on offer this year from Britain at Latitude 30, at SXSW.

We know that we, like you, will hear and see something unexpected and life changing. Thats why we love Austin, and thats why we love SXSW. Have fun!

SAOR PATROLThe idea for the band came apparently when Charlie Allan was acting in the movie Gladiator (from which theres a terrific anecdote about Ridley Scott borrowing his battering ram). Saor Patrol (freedom guard in gaelic) fuse the sounds of the past with the present, with bagpipes, folk and rock. Imagine if instead of being from Manhattan, Gogol Bordello were leather tough Celtic warriors and you might start to get the idea

PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTINgPSBs uniquely spell-binding live AV Transmissions see them weave samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material around live drums, guitar, banjo and electronics as they teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future.
