(You’ll even receive some holiday photos of your pets) HAVE you ever worried about what to do with your pets when you go away on holidays? Perhaps you need to be away from home for a short time to care for a family member or friend who is sick. Or have you ended up in hospital? Who is going to look after your animals? Worry no more, because Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre can take care of all your pet care needs from cats and dogs to birds and fish, including a pick-up and drop-off service. Being away from their owners can often be a stressful time for pets, however, the facilities at Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre have been expertly designed to make your pets feel comfortable, safe and relaxed. Set on a scenic 160-acre property at Ottaba (near Esk), your pets will be provided with nutritious meals prepared fresh daily on-site; looked after by expert staff, with a vet on-call 24 hours a day; and have plenty of free play every day. Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre owner, Lynda Friend, has been showing and breeding German Shepherd dogs for nearly 30 years and understands the needs of both pets and their owners. With over 10 years experience running a successful kennel in North Queensland, Lynda says she knows what works, and what doesn’t work. “When we owned our kennel in North Queensland, our kennel was so respected that we had clients who lived up to five hours away and they would drive all the way to us to drop off their animals before they went on holidays,” Lynda said. “As pet owners ourselves, we understand that it is hard to leave your best friend from time to time; however, your beloved pet will be treated as one of the family while they stay with us. Lots of cuddles and kisses are supplied daily. Our guests are known by name and we know all their individual personalities and habits, likes and dislikes. “We have discovered that having animals out and about playing for most of the day works best, but we still cater for the ones who prefer to be by themselves or the older animals who need things a bit slower, calmer and relaxed. “We are very different from other kennels with many kennels having the dogs locked up 90% of the time, so they may only get out once or twice a day anywhere from 5-10 mins. Some even charge you extra for this. We have the dogs out for at least 8 hours a day with happy, well socialised animals getting around 12 hours free play. We have staff in the kennels and exercise areas at all times and the dogs have a ball. “I am also a dog obedience instructor, which is why we can have our dogs out playing and we have a good reputation for getting the not overly social dog to be friends,” Lynda added. Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre has 18 exercise yards (with more under construction), which are either sand or grassed. All dogs are washed on arrival and departure; are provided with bedding, toys, all foods and treats, and even some photos of what happened during their stay. The cattery at Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre has reverse cycle air-conditioning, making it purrrfect all year round. The internal area of the cattery has individual two-storey accommodation, however, guests can amuse themselves in the large central free area which includes lounges, pillows, toys, scratch poles, or generally laze in a different spot. The new outside cat area includes an undercover verandah with cement flooring, as well as a grassed area with tree trunks to climb or scratch. Brisbane Valley Pet Care Centre is open 8.30- 10.30am on Monday to Saturday mornings and 4-5pm on weekdays and Sunday afternoons. “Our hours are designed specifically for the wellbeing and comfort of our guests, as they are free for most of the day which enables them plenty of play times and rest times without the disturbance of new arrivals and departures,” Lynda said.
