    Principal Woodwind Instructor Brisbane Grammar School is a non-denominational boys school of about 1700 students (Years 5-12) that overlooks the Brisbane CBD.     Brisbane Grammar School seeks an experienced instructor to be responsible for the leadership and direction of the Schools Woodwind department, ensuring alignment with the strategic directions of the School. They also will be required to take an active role within the Band program, particularly working with Middle School boys.

    This full time position is responsible for the group teaching of flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet and saxophone. It also involves leading a small team of visiting private woodwind specialist teachers. Extracurricular duties will involve the conducting of a range of instrumental ensembles, including Stage & Concert Bands, and involvement in Music Camps and an extensive concert performance program.

    This is a full time continuing position which is available from Monday 22 January 2018.

    Specific duties will include Tuition of small group Woodwind lessons (clarinet, saxophone & flute). Overseeing of other group Woodwind lessons (oboe, bassoon) and private Woodwind lessons. Conducting and Directing of nominated ensembles: Intermediate Concert Band/s, Stage Bands,

    Saxophone Ensemble. This includes: Selection of repertoire. Taking of rehearsals (one rehearsal per week). Attending all concerts/performances involving these ensembles as well as Grammar in Concert. Keeping of rolls and other administrative duties associated with the Extracurricular Music Program. With reference to the Head of Music, recommendation and oversight of budget relating to Woodwind

    activities. Writing of Tuition reports each semester. Responding to parent enquiries related to Woodwind activities and, where relevant, attending parent

    meetings. Attending relevant Music Department meetings. Related administrative duties including maintenance of Woodwind instruments and providing

    appropriate information for timetabling purposes. Attendance at regular major School events including Junior Music Camp, Open Day, Speech Day,

    Music Dinner and some Pupil-free Days.

    Essential Skills and Requirements Qualifications and demonstrated ability to instruct to the specified requirements of the position. Strong academic background in Music Instruction. Strong musical performance ability as an exemplary teacher in the area of instrumental instruction in

    general and woodwind instruction in particular (most notably clarinet and saxophone). Capacity to exercise leadership and supervision of students. Interest and capacity in innovation and implementation particularly in the area of emerging

    technologies. Capacity to manage the administrative duties related to the Woodwind Department including the

    overseeing of visiting, part-time woodwind staff Ability to work as a team person within the Music Department. Strong communication skills. Good conflict resolution and interpersonal skills. Evidence of a vigorous commitment to ongoing professional development related to ones duties. Capacity and willingness to contribute to the wellbeing of students. Capacity and willingness to contribute to the extracurricular programme. Understanding of and commitment to the ethos of independent schooling. Competency in the use of, and integration of ICT into the curriculum. Willingness to be involved in professional development opportunities as they arise. Hold or eligible for a positive notice and a blue card through the Department of Justice and Attorney-

    General. Capacity and willingness to be familiar with, understand and comply with School policies and

    procedures. Capacity and willingness to contribute to the safety and wellbeing of students, including responding to
