Soup and Supper Club JULY 2015
EVERYONE IS WELCOME
It’s a great way to meet the locals or just enjoy some neighborly comradery. Come in
and relax to a bowl of homemade soup or join us for a family-style dinner. Soups are
served Monday and Friday starting at 11:00 am and run $1.50 ($2.50 for clam
chowder or soup and sandwich). Dinner is served each Wednesday evening starting at
5:00 pm and is a bargain at $4.00 — reservations required by Tuesday to help the
cooks plan for the meal.
For any questions about the menu or reservations
please call Sandy Peterson at 796-4350
There will be no Wednesday Supper Club this month and no soup on July 3rd. The Kitchen
Manager has graciously given the volunteer cooks time off and out of the kitchen heat.

JULY 2015
BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES
Keppie Kepliner, Deputy Program Manager for
Jefferson County Shares Some Suggestions for
Emergency Management
1. GRAB AND GO KIT Consider something as small
as a backpack or an ice chest on wheels that will
hold adequate supplies for 7-10 days. Include
food items, first aid kit, flashlight, portable radio, cell phone and charger,
duct tape, pocket knife, tools to turn off utilities, nylon cord or rope,
gloves, small fire extinguisher, folding shovel and saw, extra set of car
and house keys, prescription medications, and seasonal clothing.
2. VEHICLE KIT Flares, Booster cables, flashlight, leather gloves, knife, duct
tape, emergency blanket, first aid kit, tire inflation can, water and non-
perishable food, rain coat, plastic tarp, towel, handi-wipes, waterproof
matches, 3# coffee can of sand or kitty litter, toilet paper, folding shovel
and saw, wool blanket or sleeping bag, fire extinguisher.
3. TURN OFF UTILITIES It is important to learn how to shut off utilities
following a disaster. * Turn off the main water shut off value at the
house. This will prevent contaminated water from entering your water
heater and plumbing. * Unplug electrical power to the well pump.
*Regardless of water source, turn off the power to the hot water tank.
*Shut off each circuit before shutting off the main circuit. Begin at the
bottom and turn each breaker off. To turn back on, start at top and work
down. * Turn off the propane.
4. Keep your vehicle gas tank at least half full. After a disaster, gas station
pumps may not be working. Remember to carry cash as credit card
machines will not work if the power is out.
5. SIGN UP FOR LOCAL TEXT MESSAGES. Log on to www.jeffcoeoc.org to
subscribe to free text alerts and e-mails about emergencies affecting
Jefferson County. (Severe weather , Tsunami warnings, Major traffic
closures, Other local emergencies.)

Brinnon History
The photograph we carried last month under Brinnon History is the store which sat on the
property which is now occupied by the Brinnon Community Center. Next month we’ll show
you what the interior looked like,
The Brinnon Cemetery was created by our town founder, Ewell P. Brinnon, in 1894 when he
set aside 1 acre of land to be used as a graveyard. He and his wife, Kate, are interred at the
cemetery. It is now owned by Jefferson County Cemetery District 1 and, as residents, we pay
a cemetery tax to support it.
Puzzle
Below, 10 nine-letter words have been broken into chunks
of three letters. These chunks have been mixed up, no
chunk is used twice and all of the chunks are used.
Can you determine the 10 original words?

IRS FORM 1040
Have you ever wondered why the IRS
calls it “Form 1040”? It’s actually
quite simple. For every $50 you
make, you get to keep $10 and they
take $40.
Special thanks to Judy and Starre for
tending and watering all the planters at
the Community Center this summer.
They look great !!
