Summershine Another fantastic time was had by all at this year’s Summershine Holiday Event. It was a sheer joy to meet all the children who came ~ over 50 every day. The theme was Under the Sea and the children really engaged with the stories and songs relating to Jesus and God’s creation. A lot of fun was had by all and many thanks go to all the volunteers who gave of their time and energy to make this such a successful event. Quite a few of the children have also started attending Salem at the 11.00 service on a Sunday. Baptism How wonderful to see another of our young people dedicating their lives to Jesus and we welcome Chloe into our family here at Salem. Vintage Afternoon Tea A good time was had by all at the Vintage Tea Party despite the atrocious weather! Lots of cake and tea was consumed as Glenn Miller, Bing Crosbie and the Beach Boys was played on the record player. There were some high scores for the 50’s quiz and Jennie showed off her hula-hoop moves. Elvis made a guest appearance but seemed to have lost his voice! Thank you to everyone who came along to support the tea party and joined in the fun. A big thanks to all who helped set up and run the event – Paula is very grateful. £135 was raised for Salem’s funds. Thank You Tesco ~ Again! Having heard of our work in helping our local community, Tesco has been extremely generous and have donated a brand new freezer to Salem chapel to use in conjunction with the Community Food Connection Project. This is so kind, and we send them our sincerest thanks. Volunteers from Tesco are also coming to help us on a WORK DAY on Saturday 10th September. If you are able to help out during the morning and early afternoon on that day we would really appreciate as many ‘hands on deck’ as possible. Ministers for Sept/Oct 2016

IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT UPDATE We are still waiting for the outcome of the kitchen grant application which

should be with us in September. RCT have also proposed us for a Co-op grant

nomination, however environmental health will make a visit to check out

the kitchen. Questionnaires have been prepared and need circulating in

the local community. Please see Jennie if you are able to help with this.

We'll then be doing a mapping exercise and getting feedback on question-

naires, from a wide spread of people of all ages. We plan to meet in October

to discuss the outcome and plan next steps. Please get in touch with Rich-

ard/Jennie or Rosa if you'd like to know more.

New Book for LGs! This term our LGs ~LIFE GROUPS will continue to meet weekly and will follow a new book, ‘Creating a Life with God’ by Daniel Wolpert in order to encourage a life of prayer If you are interested in participating then

please see Rosa. A warm welcome is extended to all.

Deacons or Trustees??? I’m sure many of you over the

past few months have heard

the term ‘Trustees’ being

used in reference to the

Diaconate. Just to clear up

any confusion, this is in rela-

tion to new regulations sur-

rounding our charitable

status. We are still Deacons

but we also fulfil the role of

Trustees, (so we are both)!

Members’ Contributions

The Deacons have been considering next year's budget for Salem and during these discussions we felt we should again ask the

members to reflect on their contributions and whether they have increased that contribution during the last few years. If you have

not we would urge you to think about increasing this - every pound helps as costs of maintaining the chapel and the ministry increase every year. You might also like to change your way of

giving. It is helpful to Margaret as Treasurer that some members pay by standing order, directly into the bank, as this then is

guaranteed income whether you are able to attend or otherwise. If you want to know more about this please ask Margaret and

she can give you the bank details and explain further. Our expenditure last year was around £40,000.00. This means a lot of contributions and fund raising so we would urge you to

pray and consider how you can help Salem to continue in the future.

Over the summer, I sensed that God was inviting us to become more of

a praying community. Salem is growing in all sorts of ways, and I believe

that we need to stay very close to God and learn to discern His vision for

us if we are to remain faithful to Him and take part in His great work of

bringing hope and healing. So as a first step towards this, can I invite

you to use this prayer guide below in your daily prayers, please? Love

from Rosa <><x
