Beyond the Pulpit
Greetings and may
the grace, mercy,
and peace from God
the Father and
Christ Jesus our
Lord be with you
all,
The fall season is rapidly
moving upon us, the signs are eve-
rywhere. Within the church, fall
means the beginning of the new
Sunday School year. While it is
true that we at Santa Fe do con-
tinue Sunday School through the
summer, fall is when the children
are advanced to new classes and
new lessons begin. We are accus-
tomed to all this for the children,
but as adults it becomes easy for
us to over-look the need for Sun-
day School. If you have not been
in regular attendance to Sunday
School, I ask you to consider mak-
ing Sunday School a part of your
Sunday morning.
Aside from the fact that it
is simply adding roughly an hour
of time at church to your routine,
it is also important to the fellow-
ship and strengthening of our
church family. As Christians we
are called to community. Indeed,
as humans it is almost part of our
DNA. One of the greatest
strengths of our humanity is that
we naturally come together and
create communities. From the
very beginning, as Genesis 2
reasons, God proclaimed that it
was “not good that the man
should be alone.” And so God
creates Eve to be a helper and
partner.
The call to community for
God’s people is reiterated in
Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12, “Two are
better than one, because they
have a good reward for their
toil. 10 For if they fall, one will
lift up his fellow. But woe to
him who is alone when he falls
and has not another to lift him
up! 11 Again, if two lie together,
they keep warm, but how can
one keep warm alone? 12 And
though a man might prevail
against one who is alone, two
will withstand him—a threefold
cord is not quickly broken.”
As a community we are
stronger, more efficient, and
more effective. The Church has
always been seen as the gather-
ing together of the faithful for
the purpose of serving God in
Jesus Christ. We believe that
Christ has called us to faith for
a reason; Christ has a purpose
for us, which includes our role
within the community. This is
why Jesus called together the
12 disciples at the beginning of
the Church, to set the model for
the gathering of the Church.
Each one was called to bring his
unique gifts and perspective,
which would one day contribute
to the life and growth of the
church. It wasn’t just what they
received from Jesus, but also
what each had to offer to the
group. So it is with our gather-
ing together in Sunday School.
We come together to learn from
Scripture and from each other.
Even if there were one whose
faithfulness and knowledge of
Scripture were so extensive and
developed that they could not
possibly grow or learn more,
then they of course would bear
the responsibility of sharing this
faith and knowledge with others.
Therefore I invite you
all, once again, to come and join
us in Sunday School. Discover
both how much you have yet to
learn and how much you have to
share with others. This is one
important way we can “Come
See, Be Fed, Go Tell.”
May the peace and bless-
ings of God, the joy of Jesus
Christ, and the guidance of the
Holy Spirit be with you all,
Mitchell Lee Miller
Zach and Rachel Newman hosted a swim party
on August 4th for Santa Fe’s young families.

SEPTEMBER MISSION PROJECT
We have four active duty military personnel in our church. You see their names
each week on the prayer list, asking for prayers for their safety. We also pray for
them to feel our love reaching out to them. In September, in addition to those
prayers, we want to send them Care Packages. Members and friends of Santa Fe
who are serving our country include Dennis Hughes, Matthew Ingerson, Renee
Ingerson & Chris Milam.
Please join us in donating items to the Care Packages. Items that they value:
Propel packets (powdered energy packets) Hand wipes
Hand/body lotion Hand or feet warmers
Snack foods (nothing that will melt, please!)
NSO Picnic - Tuesday, August 6th
Thanks to all the folks that attended the
Neighborhood Services Picnic as a kick-off party
to the clients Life Skills Program. The mission
committee could not have had such a successful
evening without all the good food and drinks you
donated. We appreciate our church family.
We were blessed to mingle with the young
men of the Carolyn Williams Center and the
mom’s and children of Martha’s House.
Even with the extreme heat of the evening
and all our “fly friends”, we went home smiling.
Special thanks to Mark Carl for grilling the
hamburgers and hot dogs.
Thanks again, Mission Committee
SEPTEMBER MISSION EVENT
United Theological College in Bangalore, India
Wednesday, September 25th at 6:00 p.m.
This year, for the first time, SFPC has sent $2000 to the United Theologi-
cal College in Bangalore, India. This college prepares students to serve God
in mission work, pastoral care, and community action. Some of the commu-
nity action that is done is teaching children who live in the poverty-
stricken slums of Bangalore. Jan and Jeff Ingerson have worked alongside of the people associated with
UTC. They’ve seen the slums. They know many of the people who pour their hearts and souls into the
educational offerings of this college AND the mission work that is performed.
On Wednesday, September 25th, our Wednesday night dinner will feature Indian food (prepared by
Gopuram, one of OKC’s best Indian restaurants). Jeff and Jan will show us slides of UTC and its mis-
sions. This is just the beginning of a partnership between our church and UTC. We hope that our associa-
tion with them will continue for many years, that a link between Edmond and Bangalore will be mutually
