BR: would you mind sharing your personal

journey with breast cancer? what

did you learn from that experience?

olivia: I was diagnosed with breast

cancer in 1992. I had found a

lump, and it just didn't feel right.

I have a history of fi nding lumps,

but this time felt different, so I

went to my doctor. even after a

mammogram and a needle biopsy

both came back negative; my inner

voice told me there was something

there. It wasn't until I had a surgical

biopsy that the cancer was found.

I don't tell that story to scare

women. It’s more to encourage them

to trust their own instincts. even after

all of the negative results, I knew there was

something wrong. If we hadn’t kept testing, who

knows how it would have turned out? I know this

will sound strange, but I consider my experience with

cancer a gift because now I have the opportunity to help

raise awareness for the importance of self-examination

and early detection.

BR: what motivated you to become involved with the Liv®?

olivia: Someone brought the idea to me and I loved it! It’s

amazing that such a simple device can help make self-

exams easier. It will encourage woman to do monthly

self-exams which is very important to me. I had the idea

to design the Liv® in the shape of a heart because, if

you love yourself enough, you will perform regular self-

examinations. my dream is for every woman to have one

and take charge of their breast health.

BR: why did you choose to partner with geiger?

olivia: geiger is an amazing company and run by a delightful

family! not only is this the largest privately-held and

managed promotional company in north america, but

they’ve been run by the same family for six generations!

that, I can really respect. they shared my vision and

desire to get the Liv® aid into the hands of every woman

in north america. together, we can make this dream of

mine a reality!

BR: what is your goal – your dream – for the Liv?

olivia: my goal and dream is that every woman in the world

BR: How can a simple device like the Liv® help a woman?

olivia: the Liv® acts like a magnifying glass for your fi ngers

so, if you are doing regular self-exams, it can help

to identify any changes. also, some women are not

comfortable doing self-exams. the Liv® is something

that is placed between their fi ngers and their breast

to make it less intimate or uncomfortable. Because

the Liv ® is so easy to use, I believe it will actually

encourage women to use it every month.

BR: what can we do to assist women with early detection

of breast cancer?

olivia: the best thing we can do is encourage regular,

monthly self-examinations. most lumps are usually

benign but early detection can be made so much easier

with regular self-examinations, annual mammograms

and clinical exams and visits to your doctor.

BR: Is the Liv® just for middle age women? what about older

women and younger women?

olivia: no, unfortunately women of all ages can get breast

cancer, even women in their 20s. I encourage all girls

from 20 on to do a monthly self-exam.

BR: what are your favorite websites, Blogs, and Social

networks for this issue?

olivia: there are so many wonderful websites out there for

information on breast cancer and awareness. at Liv.

com we have created a great resource for women and

breast cancer. In addition, CureBreastCancer.org is a

wonderful site as well.

BR: what role do men play with breast cancer detection?

olivia: many people don’t know this, but men also get

breast cancer. the percentage is not high, but

it does happen. unfortunately, the cancer is not

usually detected early because men are not aware.

also, men can absolutely assist their wives or girlfriends

with detection [smile]. many women are uncomfortable

performing self-exams so a husband or boyfriend can be

key in helping to identify any changes in the breast.

BR: How does a company benefi t by being a Liv® sponsor?

Olivia: I think the best way a company benefi ts from being

a Liv® sponsor is by giving the gift of life. what can be

better than that? there are so many companies that

give gifts to their employees throughout the year, from

baseball caps to t-shirts but, by giving a Liv®, they

are encouraging women to take control of their breast

health. we have heard so many stories, even from

Geiger representatives, of women fi nding lumps with the

Liv® and they are now in treatment because they caught

something they never would have found if they didn't take

an active role in their own health with the self-exam.

BR: In your opinion, what is the single most important

service/benefi t that the Liv® offers?

Olivia: The single most important benefi t the Liv® offers is

life! If a woman fi nds a lump with the Liv® and there is

cancer and she caught it early, the Liv® could be key to

a longer life!

BR: october is national Breast Cancer month. Do you

have any special events planned to increase public

awareness?

olivia: yes. of course, I do events all year long to keep

awareness up but october does get a bit more

intense (in a good way). I will be traveling the world,

from Vienna to Budapest to Berlin taking part in

events with the Liv® and encouraging women around

the world to perform monthly self-examinations and

to get annual mammograms. on october 16th I will

perform at the fi rst Susan G. Komen Gala at the

Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. On October

27th I will also be co-hosting and performing at a

wonderful event created by my nephew, emerson

newton-John, called Pink and Blue for two. the

event is designed to help women and men "Liv®

together and Screen together" and to show the

similarities between breast and prostate cancer and

screenings. the evening will be a fundraiser for the

olivia newton-John Cancer and wellness Centre

in my hometown of melbourne, australia and, the

Moffi tt Center in Tampa. My mentor and friend, Lee

Moffi tt will co-host the event with me.

BR: why is the Liv® a great promotional product for

breast cancer awareness?

olivia: well, it is pink and pretty (smiling!) and, it is the

perfect promotional product for men to give to the

woman in their life (whether that is a mother, sister,

wife, or girlfriend) and, for women of course to

encourage them to take a more active role in regular

breast health!

BR: What advice or fi nal thoughts would you offer

companies and individuals that want to 'make a

difference'?

olivia: my advice is if you have the chance to help make

a difference with a promotional item, the Liv® is the

which in turn, can help save a life.
