HTML Editor - HTML Editor is now improved for use with Brightspace Daylight Experience | UpdatedIn the HTML Editor tool, inserted images are now responsive by default. The HTML Editor tool now automatically applies maximum width to uploaded images that do not have dimensions specified. As a result, when a learner views content on a smaller device, such as a tablet or a phone, the images are correctly sized for the screen. This change only applies to new images uploaded using the HTML Editor tool; existing content is not modified by this change.

When you insert an image, the size, alignment, and global style are now aesthetically optimized.

HTML Editor - Paste from Microsoft Word | NewCurrently, every time a user copies and pastes any Microsoft Word content in to the HTML Editor, a pop-up window appears prompting the user to either select Remove Formatting or Keep Formatting of the pasted content.

Now, administrators can enable the new d2l.Tools.WYSIWYG.PasteFormatting configuration variable to control how formatted content from Microsoft Word is pasted into the HTML Editor in Brightspace Learning Environment. From the configuration variable, administrators can choose one of three options:

Prompt - to display a prompt where users can select to keep or remove formatting of the pasted content (the current default)

The default value of this configuration variable is Keep Formatting.

1. From the Admin Tools menu, select Organization Tools and turn on Learning Outcomes.

2. Grant the Manage Outcomes permission for the Learning Outcomes tool to roles responsible for importing standards and copying standards between courses.

3. Ensure that the LOReS microservice is available in your region.

Quizzes - Shuffle the order of questions | NewTo discourage cheating in quizzes, instructors can now shuffle the order of all questions in quizzes or specific groups of questions (sections) in quizzes. For example, an instructor could shuffle questions 1-10 in a quiz, or shuffle questions 3-10 (grouping those questions into a section) and retain the order of questions 1-2 at the start of the quiz.



When editing a quiz in the Quizzes tool, a new option to Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level displays in the Quiz Questions section. When creating a new section to group specific questions in a quiz, a new option to Shuffle order of questions in this section is visible in the Display Options section.

By default, the shuffle option is not selected for quizzes and sections.

Shuffling the order of questions at the quiz level also shuffles the order of all sections in the quiz.

Shuffling the order of questions in a section also shuffles the order of all sections at the same section level. However, the setting does not propagate to child sections.

When a quiz contains shuffled questions and sections, each learner receives a quiz with a unique question order.

To shuffle all questions in a quiz:

1. Edit a quiz.

2. Under Quiz Questions, select the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level option.

3. Save the quiz.

To shuffle specific questions in a quiz:

1. Edit a quiz and add a new quiz section.

2. Import a question pool into the new section and select questions to import.

3. For the new section, under Display Options, select the Shuffle order of questions in this section option.

3. Save the section.

Brightspace® App Finder - Update and delete listings from Instructor Feedback form | UpdatedThe Brightspace App Finder's Instructor Feedback form allows instructors to provide suggestions, and request more information on specific applications. The Instructor Feedback form has been improved to allow administrators to delete listings that have been addressed, and make notes on existing listings.

IPSIS - Support for OneRoster v1.1 - AWS Enabled | NewIntegration Pack for Student Information Systems (IPSIS) now supports the IMS OneRoster v1.1 specification. There is a new OneRoster configuration option in the new IPSIS user interface to simplify integration with this SIS provider. The specification standardizes the secure sharing of class rosters and related data between a student information system (SIS) and the Brightspace platform. D2L is certified to support both CSV and REST data exchange.

Additionally, the IPSIS Service has been added to support this functionality.

For CSV integrations, support for the OneRoster v1.1 specification lets administrators upload a OneRoster 1.1 compliant package that contains the required roster related data (including schools, classes, users, and enrollments) and see the imported results in the Brightspace platform. The new IPSIS user interface allows administrators to upload a package by drag-and-drop.

For REST integrations, support for the OneRoster v1.1 specification lets administrators schedule data to be pulled from their SIS to populate the required roster related data (including schools, classes, users, and enrollments) in the Brightspace platform. The new IPSIS user interface includes a schedule to allow administrators to configure the time of day when the data pulls occur.

The IPSIS Service:

Availability: The IPSIS Service, and thereby the new OneRoster configuration option, is available to clients in the US, EU, and Australia regions.

To enable: N/A

Microservices Dependencies: This feature is dependent on the Authentication Service and Landlord Service.

Microservices Location(s): The IPSIS Service is located in the US East (N. Virginia) region.


To integrate OneRoster with the Brightspace platform, you must be using a OneRoster-compliant SIS.

Additionally, you must use the new IPSIS user interface to set up and perform your SIS integration with OneRoster. During setup, from the SIS Provider drop-down, select OneRoster - Generic.

Brightspace Platform 10.7.3Fixed Issues

Fixed IssuesTo keep you informed about the improvements D2L has made to Brightspace Learning Environment, the Fixed Issues List consists of issues that have been fixed in the current release, unless otherwise noted.

Assignments

PRB0052126Previously, if you submitted a file to Assignments through Content that was over the maximum file size, an error might have occurred saying the submission folder has closed and the deadline has passed, even if you were submitting before the deadline.

Now, if you submit a file to Assignments through Content that is over the maximum file size, an error occurs stating that the file is too large and the maximum allowed file size displays.

Fixed in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.3.

To reproduce this fix:

1. From the Admin Tools menu, select Config Variable Browser.

2. Set a file size limit for d2l.Tools.Dropbox.MaxFileSize.

3. In a course, create an assignment submission folder.

4. In Content, add the submission folder you created and ensure it is set to Published.

5. As a learner, attempt to submit a file to the submission folder through the Content tool that is over the maximum file size.

6. Observe the error that occurs saying the file is too large and note that the maximum allowed file size displays.

PRB0054914Previously, in Brightspace Learning Environment, while using a Chrome browser, when you entered a name for an assignment submission folder, you might have observed that unrelated fields were automatically populated with information.

Now, most browsers do not use auto-complete features so that unrelated fields aren't populated.


PRB0048660Previously, if a learner viewed their submission feedback in the Assignments tool again after their initial view, but the instructor had not updated the feedback in the meantime, the date and time the feedback was read was incorrectly updated to that of the most recent view.

Now, when a learner views their submission feedback for the first time, that time is stored as when the feedback was read, and displays as the time the feedback was read to the instructor. This includes feedback read from the User Progress, Content, or Assignments tools.




PRB0054494Previously, in User Progress, when an instructor viewed the feedback on a learner's assignment submission, the Feedback Read time was updated.

Now, in User Progress, when an instructor views the feedback on a learner's assignment submission, the Feedback Read time is not updated. The Feedback Read time is updated when a learner views their feedback in either the Content, User Progress, or Assignments tools.


PRB0050828Previously, for group assignments submitted to a group assignment submission folder, if an instructor saved a score or feedback as draft multiple times without modifying the score or the feedback, the Feedback Read time was set or updated, even though it had not been viewed by a learner.

Now, for group assignments submitted to a group assignment submission folder, if an instructor saves a score or feedback as draft multiple times without modifying the score or the feedback, the Feedback Read time is not set or updated. The Feedback Read time is only updated when a learner views published feedback.


Awards

PRB0054772Previously, when using an iPad, when users received a notification that they had received an award, and if their name was long, the text overlapped.

Now, when using an iPad, when users receive a notification that they have received an award, and if their name is long, the text wraps as expected.


Config Variable Browser

PRB0054040 (Daylight)Previously, if the d2l.Settings.WebServerName configuration variable did not match the URL of the Brightspace Learning Environment login page, and Daylight was turned on, when a user logged in using a URL other than the one listed in d2l.Settings.WebServerName and then, selected a navbar link, the user was directed to the WebServerName URL. The user was then returned to the login page, or an error page; because sessions were associated with the domain name and not with the web server name.



Now, the value set in d2l.Settings.WebServerName is associated with the domain name when generating navbar links.

PRB0055078Previously, in Content, when you opened a SCORM 2004 module, you might have observed that your content completion was not accurately tracked.

PRB0054918 (Daylight)Previously, when you accessed an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled, using an iOS device, and action menus in tools such as Assignments and Email collapsed into a single More Actions option menu, the contents of these menus did not work consistently.

Now, when you access an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled, using an iOS device, and action menus in tools such as Assignments and Email collapse into a single More Actions option menu, the contents of these menus work consistently, as expected.



1. Using an iOS device, log in to an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled.

2. Navigate to the Email tool and open your settings.

3. Update your settings to hide the folder list and preview pane, and click Save.

4. Open any email from your inbox.

5. Click More Actions and select reply all, forward, or change course offering association.



6. Observe that these menus work, as expected.

PRB0055108Previously, in Brightspace Learning Environment, when you took a password-protected quiz, some browsers auto-filled password fields.

If a user called the GET /d2l/api/lp/1.6/outypes API, information was retrieved for Groups=4 and Sections=6. As such, any subsequent calls that were made for a section did not return any information.

Now, the APIs for org structure and org unit types no longer refer to Sections as having OrgUnitTypeId=6. Sections and Groups share the same OrgUnitTypeId (which is 4) and the APIs have been updated to reflect this change.

PRB0053432In some cases, if you pasted pre-formatted HTML code into the standard view of an HTML editor, the class tags were stripped out when you saved. If you pasted into the source editor of an HTML editor, the class tags persisted.

Now, the HTML Editor no longer strips out HTML tags pasted into the HTML editor's standard view when you save, as expected.

PRB0050423 (Daylight)Previously, when using HTML Editor to answer Long Answer type questions in a quiz, if you clicked the More Options button in the HTML editor, the additional HTML options did not wrap within the HTML editor window.

Now, when using HTML Editor to answer Long Answer type questions in a quiz, if you click the More Options button on the HTML editor, the additional HTML options wrap within the HTML editor window, as expected.



1. Create a quiz in any course.

2. Create a Long Answer type question, and select Allow HTML Editor to be used for responses.

3. Make the quiz active and save.

4. As a learner, take the quiz containing the Long Answer question.

5. Click the More Options button.

6. Observe that the additional HTML options wrap within the HTML editor window, as expected.

Import/Export/Copy Components

PRB0053596Previously, in Brightspace Learning Environment, when you copied a group category that was set to # of Groups into a course that already had learners, you might have observed that learners were not auto enrolled into groups in the destination course.

Now, in Brightspace Learning Environment, when you copy a group category that is set to # of Groups into a course that already has learners enrolled, learners are successfully auto enrolled into groups in the destination course, as expected.




PRB0054441Previously, when you attempted to copy release conditions, you might have encountered errors.

Now, you can successfully copy release conditions, without error.


PRB0055213Previously, when you exported a course, you were able to add two identical file names to the zipped course package. This caused the course export process to fail.

Now, when you export a course, you cannot add two identical file names to the zipped course package, as expected.

This issue was fixed as part of a later Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.3 bundle.

User Progress

Accessibility

PRB0055017If you are using a screen reader and you edit dates of units or try to use the Schedule your units feature in Lessons, the screen reader does not read the dates in the date picker. Additionally, the feedback from the date picker on the date you selected isn't clear.

As a workaround, if you are using a screen reader, you can enter the date manually.

Found in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.2.

PRB0055012In the Firefox browser, if you are using keyboard navigation and a screen reader to navigate the Lessons tool, the focus might not transfer to dialog boxes when they open, but remain on the main page.

As a workaround, if you are using keyboard navigation and a screen reader, use the Chrome or Safari browser.


PRB0055014In the Firefox browser, if you are using a keyboard and a NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader to navigate the Lessons tool contents tree, you might be forced out of the tree unexpectedly.

As a workaround, use the screen reader to refresh the page and then access the contents tree again.


Advanced Data Sets

PRB0055092Using Advanced Data Sets in the Data Hub tool, if there is a competency that is associated with multiple learning objectives, the Course Learning Outcome Evaluation (CLOE) report might not run.


To reproduce this issue:



1. Within a course, create a competency that is in Draft state.

2. Edit the competency structure and associate two learning objectives with the competency as children.

3. Navigate to Discussions and create a discussion forum and topic.

4. After you give the discussion topic a name, click the Objectives tab.

5. Associate the discussion topic with both learning objectives you created.

6. Run then (CLOE) report.

7. Observe that the report does not run successfully.

Awards

PRB0054849 (Daylight)Using an Android mobile device in an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment that has Daylight enabled, if you view awards details, you cannot see the dialog box in the current view but you must scroll to the top of the page and to one side to see it.



1. Using an Android mobile device, access Brightspace Learning Environment and ensure Daylight is enabled.

2. Access a course with three or more awards.

3. Go to the Awards tool.

4. Click View Available Awards.

5. For the last award on the page, click View Details.

6. Observe that nothing displays. However, if you scroll to the top of the page, you see a dialog box that is off to one side of the screen so that you have to scroll horizontally as well to see it all.

Classlist

PRB0054978Previously, in the Classlist tool, users could search for inactive users in the Add Existing Users area even if they did not have the Search for Inactive Users permission.

Now, in the Classlist tool > Add Existing Users area, users can only search for inactive users if they have the Search for Inactive Users permission at the course offering level.

4. Enter a title and a URL, and select the Open as External Resource check box.

5. Click Create.

6. Impersonate a learner in the course.

7. Go to Content.

8. Click the link.

9. Observe that the website opens in a new browser tab, but also notice that the tab from which you clicked the link navigates to a different page.

Course Management

PRB0055125 (Daylight)With Daylight enabled, the Course Image Library only loads images when you search with keywords.


Discussions

PRB0055033Previously, in Grid View for the Discussions tool, if you marked a post as read, and then immediately as unread (or the other way around), the second action did not work and an error occurred.

Now, in Grid View for the Discussions tool, you can successfully mark all posts as read or unread repeatedly, without error.




PRB0054768If a user has permissions to add or edit discussion topics, but does not have the Set Group Restrictions permission, and then navigates to the Restrictions tab of a discussion topic and either tries to save or navigate away from the tab, an error occurs.



1. Create a role in Brightspace Learning Environment with permissions to do everything in Discussions except set group restrictions.

2. In the Discussions tool, create a discussion topic.

3. Click the Restrictions tab.

4. Navigate to a different tab.

5. Observe that an error occurs.

PRB0055095When you reply to a discussion thread and then, before saving the post, change the filters or view, the post disappears without a warning.



1. In a course, access the Discussions tool.

2. Create a new discussion forum and topic.

3. Start a new thread in the topic and post to it.

Google Drive

PRB0055160In some versions of the Internet Explorer 11 or Edge browser, the Google Drive Picker and Google Viewer do not function correctly.

As a workaround, update your browser to the latest version and the Google Drive Picker and Google Viewer function correctly.


HTML Editor

PRB0055096Using the Edge browser, if you have multiple tabs open with unsaved content in HTML editors in both tabs and you attempt to close the browser window, if you click Yes to close all the tabs, the browser window does not close and there is no message explaining why.

As a workaround, if you have multiple tabs open with unsaved content in HTML editors in both tabs, and you want to close your browser window, close each tab individually and the browser closes successfully.

1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment using the Edge browser.

2. Access a course, and create an HTML file in Content.

3. Enter some text into the HTML editor, but do not save.

4. Open a second tab in the browser.

5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 in the same course as before.

6. Attempt to close the full browser window.

7. Notice that you are asked if you want to close all the tabs.

8. Click Yes.

9. Observe that the browser window does not close.

PRB0055097Using the Safari browser, if you modify an HTML file in the Content or Discussions tool, try to navigate away and click Leave on the prompt that displays, the prompt does not display again if you make changes to any other HTML file in those tools while you're in the same browser session.





1. In the Content or Discussions tools, modify an HTML file.

2. Try to navigate away from the page.

3. Notice that a prompt displays saying that there are unsaved changes.

4. Click Leave.

5. Modify another HTML file in the Content or Discussions tool.

6. Try to navigate away from the page.

7. Observe that you can leave the page without the prompt displaying.

PRB0055075If you copy an ordered list of content from a Microsoft Word document into a discussion post, and when prompted, click Keep Formatting, the formatting might not be maintained.



1. Ensure that the d2l.Tools.WYSIWYG.PasteFormatting configuration variable is set to Prompt.

2. In a course, access the Discussions tool.

3. Create a discussion topic.

4. Start a thread in the topic.

5. Copy content in an ordered list in a Microsoft Word document and paste it into the HTML editor.

6. In the Paste Formatting Options dialog box that displays, click Keep Formatting.

7. Click Post.

8. Observe that the formatting is not maintained, for example, the color of some of the text changes to blue.

Integrations

PRB0054198In IPSIS, if you perform enrollments and unenrollments for users who are moving between sections that share the same course, users might not be properly enrolled in the course offering.

As a workaround, send enrollments and unenrollments in subsequent files rather than in the same file.

Lessons

PRB0055015When you use Role Switch in Lessons, your actions continue to reflect your logged in user/role, and not of the role you’ve switched to.

As a workaround, create a test user with the Student role and impersonate them.


PRB0055020If you use Lessons on a mobile device in landscape mode, the Unit, Lesson, and Folder views do not have a scroll bar, which prevents you from seeing the Add button.

As a workaround, rotate the mobile device to view the content in portrait mode.


PRB0055018Using the Internet Explorer 11 or Edge browser, if you access the Standards view in the Lessons tool and horizontally scroll, the grid might stop responding and vertical scrolling becomes disabled.

Navigation and Themes

PRB0054967 (Daylight)If you use an iPhone and have Daylight enabled, the hamburger menu for the Course Selection list might be unresponsive to vertical scrolling when course names or codes are too long. This could occur if you choose Huge as your font size in Account Settings, or when you switch from Landscape mode to Portrait mode and the long name or code doesn't scale appropriately.

As a workaround, choose a smaller font size in Account Settings, or when you switch from Landscape mode to Portrait mode, refresh the page.


PRB0054483 (Daylight)With Daylight enabled, the navbar only displays the org unit name in the following cases:

When the org unit is a course

When an org unit that is not a course and not the organization has a title set using the navbar setting “Title,” which is only available if the navbar uses the Classic Theme. The Daylight experience does not recognize this setting.



1. From the Admin Tools menu, select Org Unit Editor.

2. Search for an org unit that is a department and click the link.

3. On the department org unit page within the Org Unit Editor, click the link to its homepage.

4. Observe that the org unit name doesn't display on the navbar.

Quizzes

PRB0055168Previously, if you created short answer questions in Surveys using the new quizzing experience, the summary report did not properly group the answers according to blanks if there was more than one blank in a short answer survey question. The resulting summary report appeared to have more blanks than the question actually contained.

1. Ensure the new quizzing experience is enabled in your instance of Brightspace Learning Environment.

2. In a course, access the Surveys tool.



3. Create a new survey.

4. Create three short answer questions, with one, two, and three blanks, respectively.

5. In the Restrictions tab, set the survey status to Active.

6. In the Reports Setup tab, add a report and assign it to the instructor role.

7. Save the survey.

8. Access Content and in a new module, add the survey you created.

9. Impersonate two different learners and take the survey as each one.

10. As the instructor, view the summary report.

11. Observe that the report properly groups the answers according to the number of blanks.

PRB0054887When a quiz includes a section that is put on its own page, and the shuffle option is selected, the quiz displays incorrectly and the questions from the isolated section do not shuffle.



1. In a course in Brightspace Learning Environment, create a new quiz.

2. In the Properties tab, click Add/Edit Questions.

3. From the New button, select any question type.

4. Complete the question creation and click Save and New.

5. Create a second question and click Save.

6. On the quiz page, from the New button, select Section.

7. Enter a name for the section and click Save.

8. Open the section created in the previous step, and from the New button, select any question type.

9. Complete the question creation and click Save and New.

10. Complete the next question creation and click Save.

11. Click Done Editing Questions.

12. In the Properties tab of the quiz, in the Quiz Questions area, locate the section you created in the previous steps and click the line above and below the section to isolate it to its own page. The lines are highlighted to indicate the page break.

13. Select the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level check box and click Save and Close.



14. From the context menu of the new quiz, select Preview, and then click Start Quiz.

15. If a dialog box displays saying the quiz might take time to load, click OK.

16. Observe that the quiz consists of two pages instead of three.

17. Click Next Page and observe that the questions from the section are not shuffled.

Widgets

PRB0055083 (Daylight)In Firefox or Edge browsers, in instances of Brightspace Learning Environment that have Daylight enabled, if the Course Overview widget and the Course Image Banner are both enabled on a homepage, the widgets might not load correctly and the homepage does not load.

As a workaround, you can do any of the following:

Disable Daylight.

Disable the Course Image Banner on the homepage.

Disable the Course Overview widget on the homepage.

Use either the Chrome or Safari browsers.



1. Using the Firefox or Edge browser, ensure Daylight is enabled in your instance of Brightspace Learning Environment.

2. Create a homepage that includes the Course Overview widget and/or the Content Browser widget.

3. Observe that when you try to load the homepage, the Course Overview widget remains blank and the Content Browser widget remains in a loading state.
