Whitegoods has developed another
range of minimal lighting tools,
which utilize the form factor of LED
to reduce even further their visual
impact, and of course they all hold
true to our constant principles.
Our Philosophy
- Reduction of detail.
- Seamless architectural integration.
- Logical, modular systems and families of products.
- Ease of specification, installation and maintenance.
Our perception of the ‘brightness’
of a space is primarily based on
what we see at a glance as we scan
around us. In architecture, this
is often walls and other vertical
surfaces. Therefore, how well
the walls are illuminated at
approximately eye level, is the key
factor in our determination of how
well a space is lit.
Within such a space then, which
surfaces or planes should be
revealed in order to support the
architectural concept?
What opportunities are there to
bring light to these surfaces?
Where should the light come from?
What should the properties of that
light be (how much, how focused,
what spread of light, and at what
angle should it fall onto the
surface…)?
Whitegoods provides tools for the
designer to address these questions
and answer them with light, while
the luminaires make the absolute
minimum visual impact on the space.
Brightness is in the eye of the beholder
Whitegoods fixtures provide all-around vertical illumination with high angle secondary diffuse light, filling the volume of the space with light, creating visual brightness and comfort.

The required hole is prepared in the mounting surface. The area above and around is checked for obstructions. The electrical supply is connected with the connector (in most cases supplied with the luminaire). Any power supply is normally installed at this stage, although it can be done later (all components supplied by Whitegoods will fit through the mounting frame). The frame can then be maneuvered up into position.
The frame can then be integrated into the ceiling with the ‘tape-and-joint’ method, or simply with a traditional plaster finish. Ideally, any excess plaster is cleaned from the inside surface of the mounting frame while still wet. Once dry, the ceiling can be finished. There is no need to paint the inside of the frame as the finish is RAL 9010 white.
The plaster-in frame is mounted to the ceiling with standard drywall screws. The patented plaster trim detail ensures that you will never see cracking around Whitegoods plaster-in fittings.
Although developed to meet asthetic requirements, all Whitegoods lighting tools are designed with ease of use in mind. Almost all of the range conform to a three part system:
1. An installation housing: we call the ‘Mounting Frame’.
2. An electrical/optical cassette: we call the ‘Insert’.
3. A cover, lens, or diffuser: we call this the ‘Glass Frame’ (for the downlights) or the ‘Diffuser’.
1
easy ‘click’ downlight
2 3
Now that all the ‘wet trades’ are finished, and the site is dust free, the second attachment can be carried out in a matter of seconds. Simply connect the in-line plug and maneuver the Insert up into the mounting frame, checking that the cable is not likely to snag on the mounting frame.
The Whitegoods downlight is installed: minimal, practical, functional.
Push the Insert into the mounting frame until a click can be felt or heard. The Insert will then return downward slightly and click again.
We show below an example of the installation process. We have chosen to show the plaster-in downlight because many people assume that it is a difficult process. In fact, it is very simple. Contractors instinctively recognize the simplicity and practicality of this patented system.

‘Modular Installation Philosophy’Lighting which can evolve with your space. We don’t know what benefits future technologies will offer us. However, with the Whitegoods modular installation philosophy, you can have the flexibility you need now, as well as allowing for the technologies of the future.
The Whitegoods installation Housing (plaster-in or bezel) will accept any of our Inserts. Therefore, the specifier or end user can change their mind and swap the light source whenever they like.
Moreover, a downlight Insert can be swapped for a directional gimbal Insert.
Ideal for a truly multi use, flexible, and future proof space.

Our Philosophy
- Reduction of detail.
- Seamless architectural integration.
- Logical, modular systems and families of products.
- Ease of specification, installation and maintenance.
Whitegoods is a language of light
developed to bring illumination
to surfaces in the simplest way
possible. We believe in ‘luminous
surfaces and planes of light’.
Utilizing modularity throughout
the range ensures maximum
efficiency of design, manufacture
and production. For the specifier this
means absolute consistency across
all product types and applications, as
well as making sense economically.
Lighting is about creating an
environment that uses light as
the main medium of expression.
It means having one’s work blend
seamlessly with the architecture,
often at the risk of not being
seen. It’s about giving definition
to a space.
