INTRODUCTION OF LED

A light emi�ng diode (LED) is a semiconductor devicethat emits incoherent narrow spectrum light whenelectrically biased in the forward direc�on.

When a light-emi�ng diode is switched on, electronsare able to recombine with holes within the device,releasing energy in the form of photons, This effect iscalled electro luminescence , and the color of the light(corresponding to the energy of the photon) is determinedby the energy band gap of the semiconductor. An LED iso�en small in area (less than 1 mm2), and integral op�calcomponents may be used to shape its radia�on pa�ern.LEDs have many advantages over incandescent light sourcesincluding lower energy consump�on, longer life�me,improved physical robustness, smaller size, and faster switching.However, LEDs powerful enough for room ligh�ng arerela�vely expensive, as it require more precise currentand heat management than compact fluorescent lampsources of comparable output.
