BRIGADA ESKWELA The Brigada Eskwela, a one-week activity becomes a yearly tradition to prepare public schools for the opening of classes every June, was conducted by the Department of Education last May 18 to May 23, 2015 with a theme “ Tayo Para sa Kalinisan ng Ating mga Paaralan.” D epEd said that there are several ways to give help to public schools located around the country such as by donating useful supplies or by doing community service to help improve the facilities of their chosen public schools. 2. NATIONAL DEWORMING DAY With the collaboration of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Education (DepEd) and DOH, National Deworming Day was successfully conducted last July 29, 2015. This is to zero the prevalence rate of intestinal worms in the country. It was a massive, one-day, simultaneous school-based deworming effort to approximately 16 million school-aged children enrolled in public schools nationwide. 3. OPENING OF CLASSES Secretary of Education Armin Luistro yesterday officially announced that the Department of Education (DepEd) “has made a decision” to retain the opening of elementary and high school classes in June this year, amid proposals to move it to later months. The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that the opening of classes in public schools has been moved to June 15 from June 14 to give way to the celebration of the 112th Independence Day.

4. NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) announced that this year’s Nutrition Month theme will focus on the growing problem of obesity in the Philippines. The 2015 Nutrition Month campaign, “Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo,” (Correct weight through right nutrition and exercise) aims to make people aware about how they can prevent obesity. This will be done by providing them with adequate information. July of each year is designated National Nutrition Month by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 491 signed into law in 1974. In 2014, the campaign focused on disasters and their effect on nutrition among Filipinos.

5. DISTINCT INTRAMURALS

The intramurals that was held in our school showcased the talents and skills of both the students in teachers. They were able to show and share their talents in sports and other skills to their co-students and teachers. It was a very tiring but indeed a very fun and amazing day as it was able to boost the confidence and esteem of the students through allowing them to share their talents and competing with their co-students in front of many people.

6. NATIONAL EARTHQUAKE DRILL

A metro-wide earthquake drill was held last July 30 as part of the government’s preparations for a possible 7.2 magnitude tremor. Electricity and mobile phone services would be cut throughout the metropolis. All private and government offices as well as businesses, including shopping malls were closed between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to simulate the scenario of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake.
