    The Hardened and Networked Army

    Through the Hardened and Networked Army the Chief of Army will ensurethat Army meets its current commitments and prepares for the challenges ofthe future. The Chief of Army has stated:

    Army requires a force with increased flexibility, adaptability and agility.Army must be adept at operating in rapidly changing structures where joint,

    coalition and multi-agency operations are a matter of course.

    The Hardened and Networked Army will enhance Armys protection,mobility, firepower and communications. We will be able to take a hit and

    survive and then when we engage we will do it with discrimination and

    precision.

    Key outcomes of a Hardened and Networked Army:

    Increase survivability through combat weight, protected mobility and firepower

    Increase sustainability by moving to an Army of Twos

    Optimise capability coming from the DCP by adjusting plans for some new

    systems Enhance training, education and doctrine

    Increase land, joint and coalition interoperability through enhanced networking

    Enhance readiness by increasing the size of Army and rebalancing capabilities

    Make Army more capable and adaptable by moving from battalion groups tocombined arms battle groups

    Enhance combat support and logistic capabilities

    Minimise the long term cost of ownership

    ASLAV Behind Armour CommandersWeapon Station Project

    Allows the commander to operate and fightthe vehicle, protected, by day and night,and in reduced visibility.

    Weapon must be able to suppress threatsto dismounted personnel and provide selfprotection for the vehicle.

    Crew Procedural Trainer

    Capability:The CPT will enable ASLAV crews to conduct thefull range of turret drills, gunnery skills and tacticaltraining to the highest level of simulated fidelity.

    Scope:The ASLAV Crew Procedural Trainer (CPT)Project will acquire 9 x high-fidelity containerised

    ASLAV turret simulators.

    Schedule:The first batch of 3 x CPT have been delivered tothe School of Armour.The next two batches will be delivered to Army inlate 2006.
