Africa-Wide Information The following databases provide bibliographic access to SA and foreign journal articles, reports and books: South African Studies, African Studies, and African HealthLine. Includes details of reports published by the Centre for Rural Legal Studies. The reports:

Cover issues relating to agricultural workers in South Africa, specifically labour law, working conditions, housing/tenure and socio-economic conditions.

Land reform initiatives and rural local government issues are also covered.

ALEPH Aleph provides access to the Library catalogues of UCT, UWC and the University of Stellenbosch. It lists books, DVDs, dissertations and journal titles (eg SALJ), but does not provide access to individual articles within the journals listed.

UCT Theses and Dissertations Access this collection from the ‘Digitool’ link on the Law Library Homepage. Gives full text access to more recent submissions.

Union Catalogue of Theses and Dissertations (UCTD) – (via Sabinet Online) UCTD provides access to 65,000 records of dissertations at masters and doctorate levels submitted to 32 universities in South Africa in all disciplines. It overlaps with Current and Completed Research (See above).

Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost) Although this is not a legal database, it includes 118 journal titles

dealing with law and criminology.

Years covered vary by publication, with full text articles sometimes dating back to 1990, and indexing sometimes dating back to 1984.

Africa-Wide Information Indexes journal articles from SA and foreign journals.

Arbitration CD: Resources On International Commercial Arbitration Provides full text access to the following journals: Arbitration

EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements Detailed abstracts of all impact statements issued by the US

federal government.

Entries include a description of the project, sections on positive impact and negative consequences, and legal mandates.

Covers the period 1985 to date.

HeinOnline Law Journal Library Provides full text access to more than 1 200 law and law-related

journals (most of these are US law reviews). Includes non-US titles such as the Law Quarterly Review and Oxford Journal of Legal Studies.

Provides full text access to the following SA journals: South African Law Journal, Tydskrif vir die Suid-Afrikaanse Reg, Acta Juridica, South African Journal on Human Rights, SA Human Rights Yearbook, Industrial Law Journal, Juta’s Business Law and Annual Survey of South African law.

Mainly intended as a historical archive, HeinOnline includes articles from the late 1800’s. Coverage of most titles ends in the last 2 years.

Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals IFLP is an American product, and 'foreign' means 'non-Anglo-

American'. The database is not limited by country of publication, but rather by content of the publication (thus British and American publications about non-Anglo-American law will be included).
