So what can we do to lift Pacifika achievement?
• Some aspects are beyond our control:
• Frequent absence• Lack of value of education• Lack of family support
![Page 19: Bridging the gap – our Maori and Pasifika students](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062520/56815ebc550346895dcd409d/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Some we can influence:
• Having Pasifika teachers in the school as role models
• Having a mentoring system• Making sure there are opportunities to
express the culture such as polyfest.
![Page 20: Bridging the gap – our Maori and Pasifika students](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062520/56815ebc550346895dcd409d/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Some is within our control:• Getting to know your students• Personal encouragement• Breaking things down into meaningful chunks• Giving help with time management• Setting milestones with internal assessment• Having high expectations• Making the learning relevant• Mixing up the learning styles – not just writing• Being positive• Interact with students – walk around and talk to them• Making it fun with food prizes!
