Georgia’s Children in Need

For the Kid in All of Us was founded in 2003 by current 6th District Atlanta City Councilman

Alex Wan and a group of friends seeking to make a difference in their local community.

Recognizing the staggering number of under-privileged children in Atlanta and Georgia, the

group sought not only to raise awareness of the growing problem, but also to lessen their

struggles during the year.

What initially resulted from their efforts and vision was The Toy Party, an annual toy drive event

where gays and lesbians and their community allies in Atlanta could come together to support

a cause that affects the entire metropolitan area. In 2006, the group expanded its scope and

added a second annual event, Backpack in the Park, to collect backpacks and school supplies.

The growth in 2011 continued with a third event, Project Prom, to collect refashioned formal

dresses and prom services for underserved teens in metro Atlanta.

Since 2003, For the Kid in All of Us has collected more than 38,000 toys and gift cards through

The Toy Party, 9,400 backpacks filled with school supplies and gift cards through Backpack in

the Park, over 100 dresses through Project Prom, and raised $474,000 to donate to selected

beneficiaries serving Georgia’s less fortunate.

For the Kid in All of Us is a 100% volunteer organization, incorporated in the State of Georgia,

recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service as a not-for-profit, public charity under Section

501(c)(3).

The holidays are traditionally a joyous season for children and their families. However, for those less

fortunate, this time of year can be particularly difficult. In 2012, the US Census Bureau revealed that

nearly 15% of Georgia families live below the poverty level. Our objective is to brighten the holiday

season for as many of these children as possible, and since the first Toy Party we have collected more

than 38,000 toys for our organizations which serve this constituency. Our 2012 Toy Party Beneficiaries:

New in 2013 – For The Kid in All of Us presents Backpack in A NEW Park.

Exciting new venue, same great cause!

This year, we are launching a 4-month

backpack drive for individuals, groups small

and large, and corporate participants. Our

collection period starts in March and runs

through the end of July, culminating with

Backpack in the Park as we invite you to be

part of the process: join us at Cator

Woolford Gardens at the Frazer Center to

stuff backpacks with school supplies and

distribute them to our beneficiaries that

same day. As evening approaches, the

event will unfold into a summer garden

party, as we reward the participants: our

wonderful Sponsors, Donors, Backpack

Collection Challenge participants and select

Volunteers.

In 2006, For the Kid in All of Us presented the first Backpack in the Park benefit to raise donations and

backpacks filled with school supplies for under-served school-aged children. The event has continued

to grow every year, with more than 2,300 backpacks filled with school supplies collected in 2012. Many

of Atlanta’s children dread the beginning of school as their families lack the financial resources to

provide them with even the basic supplies they will need to do well. Without a sound education, most

will be unable to break out of the cycle of poverty. Our 2012 Backpack in the Park Beneficiaries:
