“Over the years, the wonderfully secluded garden has developed and matured,” say the owners, “with the addition of herbaceous borders and a beautiful rose garden, as well as a patio area with pergola, barbecue and flowerbeds. The garden is landscaped into different spaces or ‘rooms’, another area at the bottom of the garden looking out over the fields beyond. Much thought has gone into the planting to ensure that something is in bloom at any time of the year, so the garden is always colourful.”

The local area also has plenty to recommend it. “Brent Pelham is a very sociable village,” say the owners, “with a community of people of all ages and walks of life. There are lots of young families in the village, as well as people running successful small businesses from their homes. The newly reopened pub is a friendly gathering place, while the village hall has an active calendar of events and activities on offer.”

“We shall miss our beautiful garden. We have put a lot of work into it, and get just as much out of it in terms of enjoyment.”

“The spacious lounge is just lovely with the fire blazing in the woodburner, making it nice and cosy in winter when you can cuddle up with a book while the kids play with their toys. “This is a fantastic house for entertaining and having friends to stay, with a large dining room and sociable kitchen which is ideal for cooking for people. In summer we can easily seat 12 people on the patio, should we wish to dine al fresco. We have often hosted garden parties with friends from the village here, too.”

Approaching the cottage you are immediately struck by the beautiful garden and privacy. The Oak front door opens into a lovely hallway with windows overlooking the garden at the rear. The hallway has been cleverly fitted with bespoke cloaks cupboards that provide really useful storage. The staircase rises up from the hallway directly into the 3rd bedroom which the owners presently use as a study, again being well fitted with cupboards.

The kitchen has been attractively refitted with a good range of units with an island and is an excellent social and practical kitchen being open plan to the large dining room. Off the kitchen is also a utility room and the lovely family bathroom with roll top bath. The dining room is a fabulous room with a large inglenook fireplace, underfloor heating, windows to two aspects and exposed timbers. The lounge is a delight with windows to three aspects overlooking the gardens. The lounge enjoys a lovely fireplace with wood burning stove and a high vaulted ceiling at one end together with numerous timbers.

Upstairs is the master bedroom, a double bedroom and a separate wc/wash room.

STEP OUTSIDEA particular feature of the cottage are the gardens that have been carefully planted and landscaped to provide several different areas with real interest. The overall plot approaches a quarter of an acre and is well screened by hedges and mature trees and shrubs. The main area of garden is laid to lawn with well stocked flower beds and several seating areas including a ‘topiary sofa’!

There is a useful Summerhouse with light and power connected and with a Veranda and further storage.

A pathway leads around the rear of the cottage which attractively landscaped with flower beds and mature hedging.
