A Local Favorite!1. Can you locate where the parallel lines and
transversals are?
2. How does bridge building relate to the geometry ‐we have been studying (Parallel lines cut by a transversal)?

• The student will explore angle relationships formed when lines are cut by a transversal in city planning models, specifically bridge building. • Grab computers for your research
• Complete Group Research on Bridges. Turn in your Student Research Worksheet. This is due at the end of the period. (20 pts)• Hint if you are having trouble finding information:
• Google the questions• Google the word Bridges• Find a video to watch
• When your group is done with the Research: Complete the Collaborative Work Rubric (20 points) Be Honest!!• Journal Writing Exit Slip
• Discuss the connection between building strong bridges and geometry. In particular, discuss the use of parallel lines and transversals. You can create a diagram to help with your explanation. (8 points)
**If you finish early, you and your group may begin building your bridge. Ask for a a copy of the Bridge Building Rubric from me**

Start Planning and Building!!• https://
youtu.be/b9niGbPGqs8• work in teams to design
and build your own bridge out of popsicle sticks and hot glue.
• Bridges must have a span of at least 18 inches and be able to hold a five pound weight.
• On Friday every student evaluate the effectiveness of their own bridge designs and those of other teams, and present their findings to the class.
Bridge Building Rubric (25 points)*To earn full credit in each area you must have
the following*• Plan – Plan is neat with clear measurements
and labeling for all components• Bridge Building Materials – Materials were
selected and modified appropriately• Construction-Care Taken – Great care was
taken in the construction process so that the bridge is neat, attractive and follows the submitted plans accurately.
• Function – Structure functions extraordinarily well, holding up under atypical stresses.
• Quality of work – Provides work of the highest quality that the group could produce.
