BRICK – Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper – is a tool designed for HP Data Protector enviroments, to document the Backup & Recovery environment and support the process of opening service requests with HP support. BRICK collects relevant information of the Backup & Recovery environment and displays the information in a lucid and comprehensible way.

What is BRICK?
BRICK stands for “Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper”. BRICK supports HP Data Protector Administrators in documenting the Backup & Recovery environment. Brick can also be used when opening service requests (Support Case), providing a minimum subset of information needed.
BRICK is free of charge, there are no costs associated with using the tool and no license is required to activate or run the tool. The software runs on Data Protector for Microsoft Windows and Linux (RedHat / SLES) environments and is supported for the HP Data Protector versions 6.11, 6.20, 6.21, 7.0, 7.03, 8.00 und 8.10, even if you have configured the cell in cluster-aware mode. A port to HP-UX is planned for 2014.

BRICK collects information about the Backup & Recovery environment:
Data Protector: configuration, internal database checks, installed patches, installed licenses, DP standard reports, addition information from IDB, IDB queries, libraries and devices, media, StoreOnce, backups and schedules, copy jobs and schedules, File versions and additional information.
Advanced Reports: sessions in internal database, backup results and success rate, deduplication rate and more reports.
Microsoft Windows: Information related to the operating system, user and groups, event logs, services, processes, installed drivers, disk and volumes.
Hardware: information about the hardware and attached devices.
Network: information about the network configuration.
SAN: information about attached HBA’s.
Support: debug files, Support SSO.
