Pebl.A bedside clock with a soul.Pebl . is the product of an invest igat ion in to the re la t ionsh ip between humans and our everyday in teract ios wi th s imple e lect ron ics. An a larm c lock is one of the more innocuous e lect ron ic dev ices, however i t to cont ro ls a la rge chunk of our l i ves. Heck, i t even s leeps next to us! I sought to create a more personal and emot ive connect ion between the user and the lowly bedside c lock. I t funct ions as a d ig i ta l a larm c lock, but when i t is “pet” before bed, the c lock face d isappears as i t fa l ls “as leep.” A scr ipt is in t ia ted in which a d i f fused LED begins a rhythmic pu ls ing, s imulat ing the breath ing pat ter o f someone in deep s leep. Pebl . uses an Ardunio UNO microcont ro l le r, a ser ies of capaci t ive touch sensors, and a pro ject ion for i ts d ispay.
