Brewster Academy2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT AND 16-MONTH CALENDAR
These are exciting times at Brewster Academy, and I cannot thank you enough for choosing to join us and be a part of this
historic period of investment in the many programs and people that make Brewster such a special place to live and learn.
With the close of our fi scal year on June 30, we are celebrating our highest Annual Fund total in Academy history: $1.2 million.
At the same time we mark the successful close of the three-year Fulfi lling Great Expectations Campaign that is just the fi rst of a multi-
phased approach to ensuring the Academy has all of the programs and facilities necessary to deliver on the promise of providing students
with a personalized, individualized education.
Whether you contributed to the Annual Fund, one of our capital projects, or found multiple ways to support the Academy, you have been
a part of building a culture of philanthropy. Speaking from my own time at Brewster, there is little else that is more powerful than seeing
our students take full advantage of their time on campus as they begin their growth toward becoming more confi dent and emotionally
literate leaders and collaborators and then go out into the world to fi nd and pursue their passions.
You have been a part of this. We thank you and hope you enjoy this Annual Report Calendar as a monthly reminder of all that exists here
at Brewster Academy because of you and the hundreds of others who have put their trust in us to educate future generations of Bobcats.
Mike Cooper

Our son Will and daughter Rachel are very different
students and Brewster is a school that’s been great for
both of them – challenging them in the classroom and
helping them engage in their community in the dorms
and through athletics and the arts. We choose to support
Brewster in many ways – contributing to the Annual Fund,
lending our support to important campaign projects
like Anderson Hall, and even joining in the fun at the Fall
Family Weekend Auction. Brewster is a place that has
given both our children the room to grow into confi dent
young adults and we want to do all we can to continue to
strengthen this great school.

(Will ’14, Rachel ’15)
It felt really great to make my fi rst gift to
BA. My years at Brewster Academy were
incredibly instrumental and I am very
grateful to the school and the faculty for
supporting my academic progress and
growth. I encourage all others who have
pleasant memories of the Academy to
make contributions.

of ALUMNIshowed how much BA means
to them by participating at least once during the Campaign. It’s easy to
participate every year by establishing a sustaining gift
to the Academy. Whether you set it up to make
smaller gifts each month or a single larger gift each
year – you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing
your support is making a sustained difference
at the Academy.
27% My “Brewster Experience” was a
life changing one. It set me on a
journey with the reasoning skills
and a confi dence level that have
sustained me throughout the
many twists and turns that is life
in the real world. That experience
continues to guide me as my
journey unfolds. This is why I am
committed to Brewster’s sustaining
gift program; it is a wonderful way
to give back while continuing to be
blessed by the good fortune of my
Brewster experience.

MAKING A LASTING IMPACT ON THE ACADEMYBrewster’s 1887 Heritage Society recognizes those individuals who have provided
for the Academy in their estate plans or by establishing a life income gift such as a
trust or gift annuity. Membership in the Society is open to any and all individuals
who notify the Alumni and Development Offi ce of their intentions. Recently, a
couple of our dedicated members shared their reasons for joining the Society. To

Returning to Brewster Academy’s Class of 1964 Reunion
was a total pleasure. Undimmed by the mists of time
and despite distance, after years of carrying about
all the fond memories, it was lovely to be surrounded
by classmates once again. … Quite simply, the small
gift was long overdue and only barely refl ects my
gratitude to those teachers who inspired me (and
probably others as well …). Being amongst a gathering
of classmates, in the beauty of the place and the
memories of teachers who worked terribly hard to do
their best for us, all served to urge me on to begin to
repay a debt of gratitude.
– Karen Goodall-Lawrence ’64
Returned for her 50th Reunion in 2014
all the way from her home in England.
I really enjoy working for Brewster and want to give
back. Providing for the Academy in my will was a
great option and it only took two minutes! I can’t
give a lot now, but this lets me know that I’ll be
making a difference for BA in the future. The best
thing about being a part of the Brewster community
is getting to know new people and seeing students
from all over the world experience new things.
That sort of cultural exchange is something that’s
special and it’s why I’ve enjoyed doing dorm duty
for 14 years now – nothing better than seeing a kid’s
expression when they see snow for the fi rst time!
– Marsha Brooks
Business Offi ce / Alumni and Development Offi ce
I fully expect to live a long and
fruitful life so I can watch Brewster
thrive, succeed, and lead in the fi eld
of preparatory education. I have
high expectations that my future
annual contributions and this gift
bequest will help the cause.
– Steve Morrissey ’71
WHY REUNION GIVING MATTERS Each year, Brewster hosts a Reunion Weekend for all alumni to return to campus and
enjoy each other’s company. Milestone years are marked every fi ve years with special
celebrations for the 25th and 50th classes. These years are a great time to consider
making a special gift to honor your Brewster experience. To fi nd out more about
Reunion Weekend visit www.brewsteracademy.org/reunion
YOUR ANNUAL FUND DOLLARS AT WORK
WHO MADE UP THE FY14 ANNUAL FUND?
THANK YOU! Thank you for joining us and continuing this exciting momentum at the
Academy into the coming year.
As we celebrate a record-breaking year and look toward a strong future
for the Academy, we hope you enjoy the stories behind the numbers
provided in this annual report. After this year’s fi rst Philanthropy Week, a
student described the Annual Fund as ‘the fund that runs Brewster’ – we
couldn’t have said it better.
