Brett Lane. 21. Graphic Design student at Coventry University.
Eccentric is the way I’m described by many people I know; and to me, that’s a compliment. If you were to ask them why, they would tell you straight away that I’m passionate about my interests, creative, and unlike the norm. It’s these qualities which have always resulted in me building strong bonds with not just friends, but also people with whom I work. I’ve always been good as a leader, and have done so on several occasions. . I’m also a good one for meeting deadlines, which has always seen me be a generally stress free person. To me, Art and Design isn't just a job or an interest, it's a way of life. A way of life which has intrigued me from a very young age. Whilst I may be studying Graphic Design, it is infact every aspect of the art and design world which inspires me, and I'll take any opportunity I can to gain experience in as many different fields that I can.
I have gained invaluable experience outside of my course by going on internships and taking part in live project briefs. Between April and July 2013, I was
based in a graphic design studio which allowed me to build on my already strong understanding of Adobe creative
suite as well as shadow client meetings and grasp a strong understanding of what it takes to be self employed in the
design world. From this, some of my work is now being used by clients of the company.
I have a keen interest in education and I’ve worked on internships and volunteering projects which date back nearly
10 years. I’ve worked in a Primary School, 2 Secondary schools, and a playscheme ran over school holidays. I started volunteering
in the playscheme at the age of just 12 when I would help for a 2 week period during the summer. Not only was this enjoyable,
but also rather rewarding. I think it’s from that point that I rst gained my passion for teaching.
I’ve also been lucky enough to have been given opportunities to carry out Graphic Design jobs for various businesses, clubs,
and charities such as The Wyre Forest Labour party and Pearl of Africa childcare which saw me creating 2 pieces of work
to be auctioned o and raise money for the children of Uganda.
HEADDESKGraphic Design Studio
InternshipApril-June2013
6 week internship at the heart of a small graphic design studio. I gained so much experience, and viewed the
world as a designer, taking into account so many variables you find
in the real world.
I produced numerous outcomes after meeting with clients such as logos, business cards, letterheads, flyers,
vinyl stickers, T-shirts, and event planning.

Since May 2010, I have worked as bar staff at my local sports ground where I have learnt all
the tricks of the pub trade, including successfully running a bar through quiet mid-day shifts as
well as busy all-day sports events, find out what is needed to run a small local business, and involving myself with members of the local
community and in return meeting some inspirational people.

Throughout my whole life, I have been fascinated with Art, Design, and
Engineering which has seen me regularly visiting galleries, exhibitions, and shows as
well as undertaking some fantastic projects. A prime example of this is me fully
restoring a classic Mini which I purchased at the age of just 15. The restoration saw me self tutoring myself to weld and spray
paint using a compressor. I was also taught major mechanical skills such as head
gasket replacement, gearbox removal and servicing, and rear subframe overhaul as
well as many other jobs. Other hobbies and interests of mine are vintage fashions,
20th Century history, travel, motorsport, cooking, model making, and music.
