HISTORICAL NOTE

In 1871 Robert Smith by then the prosperous owner of Hayford Mill, Cambusbarron (the largest

tweed mill in Scotland at this time) commissioned the prominent architect J. Dick Peddie to

design and build Brentham Park House. Brentham Park House was completed in 1875.

The property was the principal home of Robert Smith until 1895 when he moved to London.

Between 1895 and 1934 various prominent business people have owned the house. Firstly

Thomas Alexander who worked in the chemical industry with later mergers creating ICI. Then

John Greig a ship owner who was awarded the CBE for services to the Ministry of Shipping during

the First World War.

The property was converted into apartments in the 1940s.
