Materials

Cotton yarns work best for this bird to give it a crisp finish. For the bird photographed I

used ‘Yarn and Colors, Must - Have’ 4 ply (100% mercerized cotton) in Yarn A Opaline

Glass (074), Yarn B Lettuce (081) and Yarn C Peach (042),

3.50mm hook or appropriate hook to suit your chosen yarn,

A small amount of toy stuffing,

2 small beads for eyes,

Stitch marker, yarn needle and scissors.

Tension

Tension is not critical for this project although the stitches should be tight enough for the bird to feel

firm.

Abbreviations (UK Crochet Terminology is used)

ch: chain, dc: double crochet (US single crochet) , dc2tog: double crochet 2 stitches together

(see pattern notes below), mm: millimetres, ss: slip stitch, st(s): stitch(es)

Pattern Notes

Dc2tog: double crochet 2 together: Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over hook and pull through

(you will now have 2 loops on the hook), insert hook into next st, yarn over hook and pull through

(you will now have 3 loops on the hook), yarn over hook and pull through all three loops on the

hook.

To Make Up

Using photo as a guide sew the wings into place on the

body pieces across the top edge only. Make sure you are

sewing the wings onto the opposite sides.

Sew the beads into place for the eyes, using photo as a

guide.

Place body pieces on top of each other and starting by

the tail end, join them together by working 1dc evenly

around ensuring hook is going through both layers. When

there is still a small hole remaining, gently fill the bird with

a small amount of toy stuffing. Continue with 1dc around

back to tail and fasten off.

Beak

Join Yarn C to outer edge using photo as a guide
