2014 WES-KAAPSE SKOLETOEKENNINGSOp 17 Februarie 2015 is ons skool deur die LUR vir Onderwys in die Weskaap uitgenooi na die oorhandiging van die 2014 Wes-Kaapse skoletoekennings vir prestasie in Taal en Wiskunde in graad 9. Hoërskool Montana het ‘n sertifikaat ontvang vir Algehele Akademiese prestasies in graad 9 in Taal en Wiskunde Sistemiese Toetse (skole met ‘n leerdertal van minder as 600). Die skool het ook R15 000 ontvang vir die aankoop van ondersteuningsmateriaal vir graad 9. Dit was hoofsaaklik stedelike, Paarl- en Stellenbosse skole wat onder die pryswenners was Slegs vier plattelandse skole in die hele Wes-Kaap (waaronder Montana een is) het die eer te beurt geval By die spoggeleentheid is kort inspirende toesprake deur die Provinsiale Minister van Onderwys, me D Schäfer en die

Crazy about calamari Calamari makes my mouth very happy. My first introduction to this delicacy occurred in the home of a childhood friend whose Greek parents prepared it for us. 4 HANDY HINTS FOR YOUR HOMEThese Handy Hints will remind you of the ways you can save around the home – some you may be able to do, and others you may not be able to do, but every single one of them can help you save money and energy. Even if you only choose one or two, it all adds up!

FRIDGE/FREEZER• Check seals and doors.

Doors need to close firmly.• Check the temperature.

Fridges work best between 3° and 5°, freezers work best between -15° and -18°.

• Room to breathe. Fridges and freezers run better with air circulating around them.

HEATING• Check the temperature.

Keep the room temperature between 18° and 21° in winter.

• Seal those cracks and gaps with blockers like a door ‘snake’

• Throw on a jersey so you can turn your heater down

• Keep the curtains closed to keep the warmth in.

HOT WATER• Shorten your shower to save

water, money and energy!• Fix those dripping taps. They

can waste up to 1 litre of water/hour

• Hand wash single dishes instead of using the dishwasher

• Try a front loader washing machine they use less water and up to 60% less energy

and don’t pay for wasted energy

Two months ago, De Villiers underwent a full reconstruction of the anterior and posterior cruciate knee ligaments with an artificial graft, as well as a repair of the medial collateral knee ligament. In simple terms, he had a full knee reconstruction. According to dr Jacques Snyman, this is fairly serious surgery that could be expected to put the rugby player out of commission for approximately eight months.

De Villiers noted that he is very fortunate to have supportive infrastructures at both the Springboks and the Stormers to help him recover from injuries and perform at optimal levels. “In this case, I still needed surgery to repair the damage to my knee, and it really helped knowing I had a supportive and understanding medical scheme in my corner.”

“Recovery after major knee surgery is a slow and careful process requiring input from the orthopaedic surgeon, physical therapist, chiropractor, and trainer who know your abilities and can advise you accordingly,” he explained.

Dr Snyman explains the usual stages of recovery one may expect after major knee surgery:Post-surgeryAfter serious knee surgery, your orthopaedic surgeon will usually evaluate any swelling and pain, your muscle activation patterns, and the range of motion of your knee (as well as that of your hip, ankle and lumbar spine). Every joint should function properly so that there is no added stress placed on the knee.

The first two weeksDecreasing the swelling and reaching full passive range of motion is very important in the first few weeks after surgery. Treatment options and programmes may include icing the area regularly and working the range of motion between icing sessions. Adhering

to these programmes is crucial to recovery.

Start doing weight-bearing exercisesOnce you have achieved a full range of motion, you can start doing supervised weight-bearing exercises, which may include squats and lunges to strengthen the knee and ligaments.

“Having knee surgery is most certainly a humbling experience that teaches you not to take your health for granted,” said De Villiers. “My body is pivotal to my career, but injuries do happen – especially in a sport like rugby. Injuries are part of life; you just have to accept them, listen to your doctor and medical specialists, and work hard to recover.

“At this stage, it’s difficult to determine how long I’ll be out of action. In all likelihood, it will be for about eight months, but I am doing everything I can to fast-track my recovery. I am also trying to keep fit by doing some low-intensity cycling and swimming.

“The time-out has also given me the perfect opportunity to bond with my baby, Luka, the newest addition to our family.

BOLAND TENNISJohané le Roux (links) en Elzé Barry (regs) is opgeneem in die Boland tennisspan. Ons is baie trots op die twee dames!

ONS IS DIE KAMPIOENE!Op 12 en 13 Maart het ses laerskole deelgeneem aan ‘n Noord-Boland laerskole hokkietoernooi. Die toernooi het by Worcester Gimnasium plaasgevind op hulle nuwe Astro-baan. Ons o.13- seunsspan en dogtersspan het al hul wedstryde gewen en as algemene kampioene van die baan gestap. Welgedaan Noordjies! Julle hou ons naam hoog.

NUWE TANNIES IN DIE KANTOOR!Ons het hierdie jaar twee nuwe sekretaresses gekry. Tannie Andriëtte du Plessis (links) is in beheer van die finansies en Tannie Marlene Grobbelaar (regs) doen die afrolwerk en algemene tikwerk vir ons! Hulle het sommer goed aangepas en ons hoop dat hulle baie gelukkig sal wees by WNPS!

ATLETIEKPRESTEERDERS VAN WNPS!Die volgende leerders is opgeneem in die Boland Atletiekspan. Baie geluk met hierdie mooi prestasie. Julle harde werk word beloon!

XTERRA 7’S RUGBY SWEM

NOORD-BOLAND ATLETIEK BOLAND ATLETE WES-KAAP ATLETIEK

Christine van der Merwe, Kristi van Dijk en Wilmé van Dijk het aan die Xterra velddriekamp gaan deelneem. Behalwe dat hul dit vir hulle heerlik was, het al drie goed gevaar.

Die 0/11 spannetjie het aan Laerskool Bredasdorp se 7’s toernooi deelgeneem en vir die tweede agtereenvolgende jaar die toernooi gewen!

Ons is baie trots op die swemmers van die skool wat so mooi presteer het in die seisoen en hul Noord-Boland kleure verwerf het. Sterkte ook aan Hendrik Botha wat aan sy eerste “Levels” Toernooi gaan deelneem later in Oos-London.

Ons is sommer baie trots op die groot groep atlete wat hul Noord-Boland kleure in atletiek verwerf het.

Dean du Toit, Coetzee le Roux en Bea Wolfaardt, is al drie opgeneem in die Boland Atletiekspan. Hier is hul saam met die atletiekorganiseerder mnr Graeme Cuttings.

Dean du Toit 0/13 en Coetzee le Roux 0/12 het beide eerste plekke vir spiesgooi tydens die byeenkoms behaal. Hulle gaan later aan die SA byeenkoms deelneem.

WPS SE MINI – KRIEKETDAG Baie geluk aan die onderwysers, ouers en OOV lede wat WPS se Mini – Krieketdag op die 7de Maart 2015 ‘n sukses gemaak het. Dit was ‘n heerlike dag met baie krieket wedstryde en heerlike eetgoed. Ons hoop dat nog meer skole kan deel wees van hierdie geleentheid.

VERJAARSDAGPrimêre Skool Worcester wil Mnr. Peens baie geluk wens my sy verjaarsdag op 18 Maart 2015. Hy het 60 jaar oud geraak. Ons hoop dit is ‘n mooi dag en jaar vir meneer en mag meneer gesëen wees.

SA ATLETIEK BYEENKOMS Die Monties se o/13 7’s-span het aan die 7’s-toernooi te Bredasdorp deelgeneem en hulle uitstekend van hulle taak gekwyt.

Jo-Éke Haas, Tyrell Wilson en Veronique Visagie het ook aan die Wes-Kaap Atletiek Byeenkoms deelgeneem en ons is baie trots op Jo-Éke Haas en Veronique Visagie wat gaan deelneem aan die SA- Atletiek byeenkoms te Germiston!

O/13 RUGBY (7’S TOERNOOI)Die Monties se o/13 7’s-span het aan die 7’s-toernooi te Bredasdorp deelgeneem en hulle uitstekend van hulle taak gekwyt.

ATLETIEKLaerskool Montagu het hierdie jaar veertien atlete gehad wat Noord-Boland verteenwoordig het. Verder is die Monties besonder trots op twee atlete wat hulle Boland klere verwerf het: Roann Joubert (seuns 13) en Bernadette Groenewald (dogters 10). Roann en Bernadette het Boland by die Wes-Kaap Kampioenskappe verteenwoordig en pragtig presteer. Montagu Laerskool is ‘n klein skool en daarom baie trots op hierdie hoeveelheid top atlete.

VBS KERSKONSERTIn Desember 2014 het Robertson Voorbereidingskool hul eerste Buitelig Kerskonsert saam met Francois en Elizabeth Fourie aangebied.
