What is inside MJ (Mero Jhola)MJ (MeroJhola), Feminine Hygiene Kit is designed to last 3 years of use. The MJ is completely washable and gives you education, health, safety and dignity.1. 1 Drawstring bag: so each girl can carry her bag to school. Comfort, style and durability matter because this Kit will be an accessory of hers for up to 3 years.2. Moisture barrier shields. These hold liners comfortably in place while stopping leaks. Shields are pre-loaded with one liner in one shield and 2 in the other to show a girl can adjust to her flow needs. Shields are leak-proof because of a moisture-proof lining sewn inside called PUL.3. Absorbent tri-fold pads. Soft flannel liners are super absorbent when tri-folded like a letter, and can be layered for extra coverage. Unfolded they are square, so they dry fast and wash with very little wa-ter, AND girls can dry them without risking taboos, because they don’t look like traditional pads.4. One-gallon size plastic bags. Effective for transporting soiled items and soaking and laundering items with very little water.

Q: How do I care for the MJ if there is little water? A: You can carry your soiled liners in the plastic bag. You can soak the liners with very little water, and that water can be already used for other washing. After soaking you can spill away the most colorful water in a latrine or appropriate location and then the liners can be easily washed as usual. Because of the tri-fold design, they rinse with very little water.

Residing in Makawanpur, 16 years old Maya(name changed) belonged from a disturbed family where her father was an unemployed drunkard and a bad gambler, while her mother would earn for the family by working odd jobs all day long. Maya was continuously raped by her own father for a very long time because of which, despite being physically mature, she is mentally unstable. Even then, she never quit studying and is currently studying in 5th grade. Due to the fear of threats given to her by her father, she was unable to report her abuse to anybody until one day when her sister saw what was happening and brought it to her mother’s notice. After that, he was put into prison and Maya was transferred to Antardristi’s safe house where she is being given proper care along with regular counseling.

Antardristi Nepal has started few projects for self sustaining of the organization which will lead to long-term self-sufficiency for the children in the safe house. These programs are focused on providing food, education, health and hygieneof the safe house children.Below are the list of the project started:• Cafe Antardristi • Lunch for a cause• Mero Jhola

Antardristi was formed in 2003 to address the social issue of child sexual abuse in Nepal due to the alarming scarcity of service provision in this area. Antardristi remains one of a limited number of organizations working to eliminate child sexual abuse within Nepal and undertakes activities in the areas of awareness raising and prevention, child protection, psychological recovery and social reintegration. Undertaking this work is considerably complex. There is stigma around mental health which results in a silence around such problems and consequently increased isolation and unremitting difficulties. There also exists discrimination against young women reporting rape as blame may be placed with the victim.

ABOUT US

“Many survivors insist they’re not courageous: ‘If I were courageous I would have stopped the abuse.’ ‘If I were courageous, I wouldn’t be scared’... Most of us have it mixed up. You don’t start with courage and then face fear. You become courageous because you face your fear.” -Laura Davis
