It is with absolute pleasure that I introduce you to the programme of events for Brazilica 2013, the UK’s biggest samba carnival and celebration of Brazilian culture.

We are still astounded by the success and the sheer volume of people who came out to celebrate Brazilica in 2012. We were delighted to be nominated for Best Cultural Event at the Brazilian International Press Awards and Juice FM Style Awards. As such, it is onwards and upwards in 2013.

We are excited this year to extend the Brazilica celebrations to an entire week. Our Carnival Day and Samba Parade are set to be our biggest ones to date and we are thrilled to welcome our special guest performers – Sargento Pimenta (the samba Beatles) all the way from Rio. We are also delighted to be hosting our first ever Capoiera Encontro as well as an exciting collaboration with Braziliality on our Frevo Drop exhibition – make sure you check it out!

There are thousands of artists and performers who have supported us over the past five years and this year is certainly no exception as we welcome hundreds of performers to the city from all over the world. We need to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of them and to all of our funders, sponsors, partners and volunteers that make Brazilica possible.

For all the latest information on this year’s carnival, visit www.brazilicafestival.com or follow us on Twitter @BrazilicaFest. I hope you have a fantastic time and on behalf of the Liverpool Carnival Company and all those involved in producing Brazilica, thank you for all of your support.

Maeve Morris

Director, Liverpool Carnival Company
