Winter 2013
Brazilian winters are warm but, different as most of the year is hot. Often there are only two seasons, a summer and a hot summer. The winter season is colorful and yields plenty of fruits. The vegetation
and landscape are rich.
Arraiá(countrified name used for village in Portuguese)
Wherever you go during the winter in Brazil, you will see people in fancy costumes, dancing to the sound of a concertina and singing traditional songs. The folklore, food, and drink bring people together to celebrate.
Folk Festival
What many people don’t know is that Brazil has another kind of Carnival. It take place near the beginning of the winter in the Amazonia State. The festival is called
Parintins. The folk history is the focus of this festival. Magic indigenous rituals are celebrated and illustrated by display of huge jungle animals. In one part of the festival two massive oxen fight in a reenactment of well-known folklore story.
