Brayton CE Primary School “Together we shine as one”
New – whole school target.
Next week’s ‘Bee kind’ target is to
help others before we help
ourselves.
What the teachers say about this week
Foundation Stage We have shared the
story ‘Geronimo’ which had an uplifting message about
following your dreams. In Maths we have
played Smash it! It’s been a great hands-on activity for practising
subtraction. The children have also
created their very own nativity scene on the
stage outside.
NEWSLETTER Week 13 6
th December 2019
FS/Year 1 We have had an
exciting week writing letters to Santa and
practising our Christmas play. In
maths we have been recapping addition,
subtraction and ordering numbers.
Year 2 WOW, there are not enough words
to express how proud we are of each and every child in Year 2 for
their fantastic Christmas play performance. In maths we have
started to learn multiplication facts in the 2,5,3, and 10 times table. In English, we have written a setting description using expanded noun
phrases.
Nursery – Stars
The children have enjoyed the story ‘Stick Man’ and this has also helped to kick start the Christmas festivities in Stars this week. The children have
helped to decorate our Christmas
tree and have made an Advent Star each for our
Advent Calendar
Year 6
Maths has been the focus of year 6 this week. We have completed lots
of simplifying, comparing and ordering fractions with different
denominators. We have looked into the Journey of a Pharaoh in the
afterlife and written reports about it. Who knew that a human heart could weigh less than a feather? We also
created graffiti – Grammar, punctuation and spelling graffiti!
Year 5 This week, we are realising just how important knowing our times tales is as we work on square and
prime numbers, not to mention division and long multiplication. We have been investigating the force of
water resistance in science and showing off our scientific writing skills. We are excited about creating our own space themed website. More news about this next
week.
Wow! What a busy
‘Christmaths’ kind of
week!
Year 3 / 4
What a week! Busy as ever, we’ve been creating a biography for King Alfred
and his battle with the Vikings. We’ve designed and made pencil drawings of a dragon’s head for the front of a Long ship and have been continuing to read our class book,’ the Saga of Erik the Viking’.
We’ve also used our observation skills in
science, looking at highly magnified pictures of citrus
mites and human ears.

Polite Request
As a parent you will always be your child’s biggest influence and they will hero
worship you. That means that in school they will copy your mannerisms, your turn
of phrase and your sense of humour. When you are doing the school run, please be careful with your jokes,
language and opinions. In the same way that you would expect school staff to be
aware of their conduct around your children, please remember to keep your
conversation child friendly.
