From the quarry each alabaster stone isbrought to our Milwaukee workshop where wemanufacture the metal fittings and assemblethe electrical components. Most ceiling pen-dants are available in several sizes and aremade to order with the length to match yourindividual needs. How to DetermineBowl Diameter Most of our alabaster bowl styles are avail-able in a variety of sizes. We measure overallbowl diameter to the outer edge of each fix-ture. See page 17 and 18 for helpful hints onselecting the correct bowl diameter for yourneeds.

How to DetermineOverall Length (OAL) Brass Light Gallery ceiling fixtures are avail-able in variable overall lengths tailored toyour specifications. To determine the correctoverall length, specify the distance from ceil-ing to the bottom of the fixture as shownabove. Order in one inch increments. Seepage 18 for recommendations on fixturelengths over dining tables.

To adorn our classical Tuscany Pendants wehave faithfully reproduced a late 19th centurycurled leaf Beaux Arts bottom finial and ceilingcanopy. For our Laurel Leaf Pendant (andmatching wall sconce, page 6), we have addedsolid brass leaves obtained from the samefoundry that has been casting them since 1902.

Selecting Pendants for Hallways and Foyers

For narrower residential hallwayswith an 8’ ceiling, a 12” diameter bowlis often appropriate. Consider bowlsthat are 15” - 19” in diameter for sin-gle-story foyers and wider hallways,as seen in the photo, far left. For largeand two-story spaces choose 24” - 36”diameter bowls.

Choosing the Best Size and Length for a Fixture Over a Table

We typically recommend choosing an alabaster bowl with a diameter between 18”and 24” for your dining room. For breakfast nooks and other small spaces considerchoosing a bowl between 15” and 19” in diameter. In rooms with typical 8’-9’ ceil-ings, the bottom of the bowl should hang approximately 36”-42” above the table. Inrooms with 9’6” or taller ceilings, the bottom of the bowl should hang approximate-ly 42”-48” above the table. Of course, the best choice depends on your table androom size and ceiling height. If you’re having difficulty choosing the bowl size andfixture length, call our customer service department for assistance.

At its best, Regency archi-tecture had a lightness oftouch and exuberancethat blended austerityof overall design with boldornamentation, crisp lineardetailing and a sophisticated,yet romantic sensibility. Itwas, in the words of Regencyperiod architect Sir JohnSoane, “...the fanciful effectswhich constitute the poetry ofarchitecture.”

At Brass Light Gallery we have long appreciatedthe beauty of alabaster. A soft, translucent

stone, alabaster has been used since antiqui-ty to create ornaments and sculpture – and

lighting. When lit, alabaster produces asoft, pleasant light suitable for dining orfor reading, as well as illumination in anyinterior space where a relaxed ambience isdesired.

Our alabaster stone originates from a third-gener-ation family quarry in southern Europe. We have

worked with the quarry owners for many years creatingnew designs, and in some cases, bringing back to life classicold designs based on antique alabaster fixtures.

At the quarry each stone is individually carved into shapes that willbecome ceiling pendants or wall sconces. Some of our very large ceiling

bowls begin as rocks weighing several hundred pounds each. (Don’t worry, each finishedalabaster fixture weighs considerably less.) Because alabaster is a natural material, no

two fixtures are alike. Each has subtle differences in color, texture, and veining.Each fixture becomes a unique work that is both functional and beautiful.

Throughout this collection you will find alabaster used in many settings, fromsmall hallways and bathrooms to large commercial spaces. We hopeyou find that the versatility of alabaster can help solve yourlighting needs.
