Sliding Table

The Sliding Tables are available in two different heights, for standing and sitting positions. The tables feature a sliding

top and, when opened, the pencil wood surface is exposed. A slot is cut into the wood giving the option to stand up a fabric

swatch to present jewelry on. An additional white top is available that can be inserted into the space between the two

sliding top surfaces.

“ARTIFACT ROOM” brandon washington, aileen diprinzio professional work: QVC

A designated room for the display of objects that

highlights the history and achievements of QVC.

QVC assigned the scenic design team to design/update their artifact gallery in the corporate building. The gallery is part of the QVC tour. We needed to show

objects like QVC’s old bus hood/bumper, a spinning wheel, gold records, awards, etc. in an interesting way.

This project is still in the construction phase.

“THE LISA ROBERTSON SHOW” brandon washington professional work: QVC

A set designed for a show developed around the

personal style of QVC host Lisa Robertson.

This show was created in part of QVC’s initiative of capitalizing on the ever-growing popularity of their

hosts. Lisa Robertson is known for her style expertise and her celebrity friends.

Proposed Design

The design we proposed was a closet inspired set that

featured a movable store-like window where Lisa can

kick-off the show.

The set also included replacing some of the back-walls with closet like displays that can be rolled in and out if needed. The normal square platform was turned into a large cirlce

giving Lisa and the models more room to stand.

New Direction

A second scaled down version was requested of us if we were to run into any time or budget constraints. Our challenge was to develop “The Lisa Set” making only minor set modifications and using furniture and decor. We will ultimately use this look.

Furniture Placement

The first section is a place for Lisa to open up the show and give viewers a preview of products that will feature on the show.

The second section is dedicated for models and fashion. The section has a large platform for Lisa and the models to stand.

The third section is dedicated to beauty products. This section has places to display and sell the beauty products.

Back Wall and Platform Re-Design

The minor construction change we made to the set was

replacing the platform area. The platform was replaced with a large circle platform and the back wall was replaced with a much cleaner and modern wall.

The wall featured a monitor and cubbies cranded with LRS, giving the set more opportunities for branding and product

display.

A design exercise that requires to designing and

building a project in 24 hours.

In between projects and/or having a creative block, a 24 hour design project helps to inspire and get back on the right track. The project uses found materials and/or

objects. Lastly, must be completed within 24 hour.

“THE AMERICAN DREAM” brandon washington personal work

“Anyone who can’t sell a bag of air with a dream

inside doesn’t deserve to call himself an American much less an art dealer.”

- Dave Hickey

On the anniversary of acclaimed designer/artist TobiasWong’s death, in celebration of his life I reinterpreted

his project Dreams.

Page 52: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.38

“THE AMERICAN DREAM” brandon washington personal work

Conceptualizing the Dream

The American Dream is placed within a brown paper bag.A mirror is placed inside of a brown paper bag that reflects the purchaser when the bag was opened. The reflection represents the American Dream, which began to fade during harsh times in 2011.

Page 53: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.39Selling a Dream

Selling the American Dream for a dollar.Conceptualizing the American Dream was only one part of the project. The second part was actually selling the dream. The American Dream was sold for a dollar to passer-byers in downtown Philadelphia, just as had Tobias Wong did in New York City.

“PAPAIR” brandon washington academic work

Designers: Brandon Washington, Yurri Mial, Robert BowmanType: Academic workYear: 2009* Selected for Design Philadelphia

A D.I.Y. shoe concept that is sustainable and eco-friendly

Papair uses an assembly process similar to the process used to assemble moccassins. Papair is constructed with-

out having to sew the shoe together. Papair has a sole that has more support than the usual flat sole of D.I.Y. shoes.

Page 58: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.42

“PAPAIR” brandon washington academic work

Assembling Papair’s Upper

Papair’s holes are pre-cut, and comes with two laces to assemble each shoe. Two laces are used to assemble the shoe and to attach the upper part to the sole. The laces have harden tips that makes it easier to feed them through the various, thoroughly aligned, holes throughout the shoe. No need for sewing needles.

Page 59: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.43Assembling Papair’s Upper

A toggle is used to secure the laces to the back of the shoe.

The toggle allows the user to adjust the fit of the back of the shoe to the foot. Since the laces are attached to the sole, tightening the toggle will make the back of the upper piece more secured to the sole.

Page 60: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.44

“PAPAIR” brandon washington academic work

Papair’s Sole

Papair has a rubber, sneaker like sole that is thick and has an arch support.

Papair’s sole is made out of repurposed rubber. Ther is a series of holes that the laces can feed through to attach the upper piece to the sole. The holes are

inserted into a channel in the sole to protect the laces.

“LIGHTER PROJECT” brandon washington personal work

A project that repurposes vacant phone booths.

Being a cigarette smoker I often, like a lot of smokers, use these booths as shields during harsh winds and

rain. Seeing a lot of vacant phone booths in Philly, I felt that installing a lighter in these vacant booths was

appropriate. Eight around the city was installed near bars, nightclubs, and art galleries.

Page 72: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.54

“LIGHTER PROJECT” brandon washington personal work

First Attempt

The first attempt at the project was a learning experience.

The first lighter installation I ran into a few problems. The booth needed some type of signage and the first attempt was to spray paint the logo on the booth, which didn’t take to the metal. The lighter placement inside the booth was a little awkward also.

Page 73: Brandon Washington's Work samples

.55Project Features

The lighter is attached to the top of the inside of the phone booth.

A more prominent sign was created and attached to the top of the booth.
