Quick, safe and durable: The pipelining process

Construction:A cable winch pulls the Brandenburgerliner from shaft to shaft into thesewer to be rehabilitated. Once itis in place it is sealed at both ends.Due to a special longitudinal re-inforcement of glass fibres anoverexpansion or tearing of theGFRP pipe liner is impossible.

Curing:The new "pipe-in-a-pipe" is filledwith compressed air until itpresses form-fit to the old pipe.Under retention of the constantinner pressure the pipe liner iscured with support from a mobileUV light. The camera installed onthe light unit as well as thetemperature and pressure sensorsensure an exact process monitoringand documentation.

GFRP pipe liner - Renovation with high-performance materials

Stability, chemical resistance and endurance of the material used is decisive for successful

sewer rehabilitation. Therefore Brandenburger has been relying on glass-fibre reinforced

plastic (GFRP) for decades.

the trenchless sewer rehabi l i tat ion: The

Brandenburger GFRP pipe l iners can be

adjusted to the individual requirements in

all conventional sewer cross-sections. GFRP

pipe liners are capable of bearing extreme

loads at very low wall thickness.

The wrapping techno logy patented by

Brandenburger is unique. Compared to

conventional pipe liners a seamless design

is ensured and offers special advantages:

Background Information on LightTechnology

The light curing procedure hasbeen used in industrial applicationssince the 1970s, such as for curingpaints in the automobile industry.

This technology was first used insewer rehabilitation work at theend of the 1980s.

In the light-curing procedure, theresin to be cured (UP or VE resin) isexposed to light of a specific wave-length (360 - 420 nm). Special lightinitiators in the resins ensure thatthe intended reaction occurs. Inthe resins being used, UV light canonly induce polymerisation whenfree radicals are present.

Exposure to UV light causes the"photoinitiator molecules" to de-compose into the radicals that arerequired for the polymerisationprocess. These induce polymerisa-tion by interlinking with the styrolscontained in the resin.

with homogenous resin distribution. Therefore

the Brandenburger GFRP pipe liner is drenched

directly in the plant - in a standardised and

monitored process. There is no need to handle

Brandenburger GFRP pipe liners are superbly

radial flexible due to the specially developed

glass-fibre composite. Thus the pipe liner

form-fits itself to the old pipe walls. Stretching

in the longitudinal direction is prevented by

the special alignment of the glass fibre.

and transported without difficulty. Packed UV

proof into a transport box they are not sensitive

to high temperatures and can even be shipped

long distances.
