Why do you think it's problematic for people to call your plays "race plays"? Who are some playwrights that inspire you? With Appropriate you tackled the family drama, with An Octoroon you dissected melodrama: why so many different forms? It's hard to not see the parallels between yourself and the young Miles. Do all of your characters carry some facet of yourself? You seem to be working endlessly since Appropriate premiered at Humana. How are you able to dish out so many plays within such a small span of time? What does the time that you’re not working look like? With Gloria, all the characters have a choice to either capitalize on the tragedy that occurs or take a step back except Gloria; she seems to be the odd one out. How does she feed into this idea? What has it been like writing about millenials? Do you feel a certain comfortability? Do you even consider yourself one? You’re teaching at Princeton now; what’s it like teaching at the same place you went to school?
