Brand Guidelines for Student Clubs and Organizations

Brand Guidelines for Student Clubs and Organizations The NSU brand is designed to create a cohesive visual experience to all members of the NSU family. Branding is our opportunity to define who we are as well as who we want to be in the future. It’s the story you’re telling to engage with your audience, from tangible items like the name, logo, and website to intangible components that help build trust and connections. Brand is not a static process; it constantly grows and adapts. It is the responsibility of each member of the campus community to uphold the standards that give the NSU brand its look and feel. In fact, you are an extension of the brand too. You are an ambassador of everything NSU. With your help, we can achieve the awareness, recognition and loyalty needed to become the model of the modern university. This student style guide is designed to help new and existing student organizations create authentic, message-driven brand identities by incorporating the spirit of the NSU brand without violating University trademarks. Brand Guidelines for Student Clubsand OrganizationsThe NSU brand is designed to create a cohesive visual experience to all members of the NSU family.

Design Review Process

All design requests must be submitted to [email protected] for review and approval. The student marketing design team will work with Public Relations, Marketing and Creative Services (PRMC) to ensure that all designs adhere to university branding guidelines.

It is strongly recommended that you reach out to student marketing design team before finalizing your design with the vendor. Please do not commit to any design, final production, or an order with your vendors until you have received approval from [email protected].

It is IMPORTANT to note that each approval is a one-time provision and is only applied to the proof that was sent for review. Designs will need to be reviewed and re-approved each time a new order or a re-order is placed.

NSU Logos & Branded Elements

Official NSU Florida logo, NSU Athletics logo, NSU College Logos, NSU official branded sharks (photographic or graphic shark from Athletic logo) CANNOT BE USED in any design, by any entity (including student organizations) without review and approval via email at [email protected].

Official NSU logos, marks, and brand elements can only be used IN COMPLIANCE with all brand guidelines and limitations, dos and don’ts as described at bit.ly/NSULogos and the guidebook at bit.ly/NSUBrand

The “fin/horizon line element” CANNOT BE USED in close proximity with student organization logos as they compete with each other and diminish effective positioning and equity for the official NSU logos and brand elements.

Athletics Logo & Branded Elements

The NSU Athletic Logo and/or the graphic shark affiliated with NSU Athletics may NOT be used for products that have no relationship to NSU intercollegiate athletics, recreational/ intramural sports, sports-related events or promotions

This specific shark is reserved for NSU’s Athletics Department. Student groups are allowed to use other versions of sharks in their materials. See examples on page 9.

Co-Branding & Nomenclature

Designs must include, “Nova Southeastern University” or the ”NSU” acronym and must be written out in the Gotham Bold font. See examples on page 7 and page 8. If you do not have access to the Gotham font family, you may use Montserrat Bold which can be downloaded for free from Google Fonts or from the NSU App Store.

If you wish to combine custom artwork with a group identifier or NSU brand element, you must work with the student marketing design team to observe appropriate “co-branding” relationships (i.e., official mark on one side of a product, “your” approved artwork on the other; your club emblem on the front of the t-shirt or garment, official NSU Florida logo on sleeve, etc.) See examples on page 6.

Co-branding with the official NSU Florida logos and/or brand elements following all guidelines and proper relationship spacing (elements must be separated by a distance greater than the height of the N in the NSU Florida mark) for “co-branding,” not “mash-ups."

“NSU” is an official and controlled, preferred acronym for Nova Southeastern University, and should NOT be portrayed in any alternative, decorative typeface or embedded in a non-official identifier design. See examples on page 7 and page 8.

Custom Shark Art

Emblems MAY include “your own” version of a shark art,as long as the designs and elements are approved via email [email protected].

Please use good judgement when choosing elements for your design. For example, a cartoon shark with glasses is acceptable, but not a shark with a shot glass. Shark in a mask is acceptable, but not a shark in a bikini.

Promotional Display Items

Certain products, such as imprinted tablecloths, step-and-repeat photo backdrops,pull-up banners, flutter flags, large vinyl banners, etc. are considered professional promotion displays. The general public, whether intended target audiences or not, will consider the content on these products to be “official representations” of NSU. These items must be designed by the PRMC department.

If your club or organization is interested in these types of items, please email [email protected]. A member of the student marketing design team will contact you to discuss available options.
