Fall Fund Raiser:

Members: This is a call for HELP! We need volunteers to help with the finishing details to produce the

original play by our very own playwright, Peg Inglis. She has spent the winter writing and getting ready to

present “Ladies: It’s Time” to celebrate 100 years of Voting Rights for Women in New York State. It promises

to be a smashing success WITH YOUR HELP. We are not serving food at this event but we do need folks to

help out in other ways. Please, if at all possible, attend a meeting where the needs will be outlined on

Wednesday July 26th at 5:30 p.m. at the Dormann Library. Many helpers will make for a lighter load for

each. If you can’t attend but can help, please contact Peg Inglis at 607-292-3906 or 607-769-4596 or by email

at [email protected] or Suzanne Scott at 315-382-3010 or by email at [email protected] . Hope to

see you there!

Legal Advocacy:

Think Black Women Deserve More than 63 Cents to the Dollar? Join the #BlackWomensEqualPay Day

Twitter Storm

Women in Student Loan Dept by Race

July 31, 2017

Time: 2–3 p.m. ET

Location: On Twitter! Follow @AAUW, @AAUWPolicy, and hashtag #BlackWomensEqualPay

Cost: Free

Event Description

Would you like to work 19 months just to get paid the same paycheck your coworkers get in 12 months? That’s

the case for black women in the United States, who are paid 63 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-

Hispanic men.

#BlackWomensEqualPay Day, which takes place on July 31, is the symbolic day when black women’s earnings

“catch up” to white men’s earnings from the previous year. When 70 percent of black mothers serve as the

primary or sole breadwinner in their family, every penny counts. The pay gap threatens women’s economic

security and can hinder women’s ability to pay bills, including student loans. AAUW’s new report, Deeper in

Debt: Women and Student Loans, found that a whopping 57 percent of black women who were repaying

student loans reported that they had been unable to meet essential expenses within the past year. After all, it’s

hard to pay bills when you’re missing a huge chunk of your paycheck.

Help take action this #BlackWomensEqualPay Day! Join our Twitter storm, when we’ll explain the gender pay

gap, suggest solutions, and, with your help, advocate for change.

AAUW has observed or will observe the following additional equal pay days in 2017.

March 7, 2017

Asian American women’s Equal Pay Day

May 1, 2017 White women’s Equal Pay Day

May 23, 2017

Audit Report of EF account: The audit of the Bath Branch AAUW Education Fund accounts was conducted on July 5, 2017. The bank

statements indicate the funds are accounted for and few checks or deposits are written from or made to the

account. The following areas of concern are noted:

The name on the Account is “AAUW Fellowship Fund.” As long as I have been a member the Branch it

has always been used for scholarships and has been referred to it as the “Educational Fund” or the

“Educational Opportunity Fund.” I recommend that we simply note in our records for what the account

is to be used.

The check book register was not delivered for audit with the bank statements but the bank statements are

straight forward and the balances track month to month. Next audit the register should be examined as

well as the bank statements.

Bonnie T. indicated that she and Elfie are writing up a procedure “manual” for the handling of the funds

and to explain and memorialize how the sale of TOPS gift cards is handled. My recommendation is that

such procedures be reduced to writing before the next audit and before time to elect new Vice-Presidents

of the Educational Fund.
