Fincher says medication helped some, but

Beau continued to struggle, and his behav-

ior was aecting the whole amily. Our

daughter, 11, told us she couldnt take it

    anymorehe was increasingly unmanage-

able and he was making her miserable. We

heard about Brain Balance and went to aseminar about a year ago to fnd out more.

I am naturally skeptical and rugal, but

ater hearing about the programs amaz-

ing results, we decided we had to give it a

try. We made helping Beau get better our

    number-one priority.

It wasnt easy at frst, Fincher admits. The

frst thing we discovered is that Beau has

    severe ood allergiesgluten, wheat, dairy

and eggs. We had to learn how to shop

and rethink the way we eat. And Beau was

reluctant to go to his sessions or the frst

ew weeks, but then he bought into it and

looked orward to them. Within nine to ten

weeks, we saw a dramatic improvement.

His teachers remarked at how mature he

was acting and how much hed changed. He

went rom being a behavior problem to get-ting all As and Ss in conduct. He went rom

being a year behind grade level to just shy o

grade level. Weve drastically decreased his

medication, and we think hell be ready to

move out o IEP entirely and into a regular

    classroom by Christmas.

When I met Beau last year, I knew that

we could help him, afrms Dr. Peter Scire,

executive director o the local Brain Bal-

ance Centers. He was struggling with the

    classic symptoms o ADHDexcessive

    distractibility, restlessness, impulsive

ness, rageand our program is designe

to address the underlying cause or thes

    symptoms while medications are ormu

lated to treat the symptoms. The gre

    majority o children graduating rom

our program are on less medication ocompletely o their medication. I kne

that with the right assessment we coul

develop an individual plan or him tha

    would be successul.

We now know that the most accuratediagnosis or children like Beau and

    children oten diagnosed with autism,

    Aspergers, Tourettes, ADHD, dyslexia and

    other learning disabilities is actuallyFunc-

    tional Disconnection Syndrome or FDS,

    explainsScire, a board-eligible chiroprac-

tic neurologist. The latest unctional MRI

brain research shows that in FDS there is a

    unctional disconnection between the two

hemispheres o the brain. The hemispheres

o the brain are essentially out o synch.

One hemisphere processes inormation ata slower speed, like dial-up and the other

hemisphere is processing at DSL speed,

    he explains.

First we determine i a child exhibit-

    ing abnormal emotional, social, physical

and academic symptoms has FDS. Ater

we determine which hemisphere is unc-

tioning abnormally, we design a speciic

    program integrating physical (sensory

    and motor) activities, cognitive exercise

    and supportive nutritional initiative

or each child. Scire says. We literal

change the brain through exercising th

    circuits and retraining the hemisphere

    to communicate eectively. The brain

designed to be in balance, so once yo

    strengthen the weaker hemisphere, th

negative symptoms disappear. Werpleased with Beaus progress. Hes don

quite well and is on a dierent path now

He knows that he is capable o learnin

and controlling his impulses and tha

i he works, he will succeed. Weve see

hundreds o success stories like his.

Whats the best part? The peace th

Brain Balance has brought our ami

is unbelievable, says Fincher. He is

dierent kidone o the most con

dent kids youll ever meetand wergrateul that he is now able to live up t

    his potential.
