PRINCIPAL’s REPORT
Welcome back to the 2017 school year. We have had a very
settled start to the year and it is with excitement that all of
our students, staff and family members have returned. It is a
great honour to be the Principal of such an outstanding school
and I look forward to working with all of the students, staff,
families and wider community members over the coming years.
We currently have an enrolment of 260 students, an increase
by almost 50 students over the past two years. I believe this is
due to the pride we take when representing and speaking about our school in
the wider community, the excellent way we personalise learning for all of our
students, the opportunities we provide for all and the passion we have for
ensuring every student achieves success.
Kindergarten 2017
On Thursday 2nd February we welcomed 54 new Kindergar-
ten students to our school. I have visited each class every day,
and already the students are learning about and demonstrating
what it means to be safe, respectful and responsible learners.
This is a very important time for these children and their par-
ents, and as a school we are very proud of them all for settling
in so quickly. We look forward to our new families becoming
an active part of our school and we welcome you all.
School Driveway Gate
The school driveway gate will be closed and locked from 8:30am to 9:30am
each morning and from 2:25pm - 3:15pm, every afternoon. We do this to
ensure all of our students are SAFE when entering and leaving school. As you
can imagine, if we allowed all members of the community to drive in and out
of the driveway and use the carpark, we could have up to 150 cars come in
and out, which would be extremely unsafe. I thank you for your understand-
ing in this matter.
Assembly
This term we will be trialing Wednesdays from 12:40pm - 1:30pm for our
whole school assembly. Assemblies will be held in the hall. We are trialing this
time as during the afternoon session the before and after school care require
the hall to set up for the service, and our students on assisted school
transport miss part of the assembly when held in the afternoon session. Par-
ents and carers are encouraged to attend the assembly and you will receive an
invite from the classroom teacher if your child is to receive a PBL or special
award. Our first assembly this year will be held on Wednesday 1st March
at 12:40pm.

This year every class will attend the library for a library lesson each week. Some classes
will spend an additional hour in the library to complete lessons related to other Key
Learning Areas.
The library program is part of our whole school release from face to face (RFF) pro-
gram.
All classes have now had their first library lesson for the year. The students have en-
joyed borrowing books for both home and school.
In order to encourage students to continue to borrow and enjoy books we are starting
a borrowing competition. Children who remember to return their library books and
borrow again will earn one point for their class. At the end of the term the class with
the highest percentage of borrowing will be rewarded.
There will also be individual recognition for students who make the greatest effort with
borrowing.
Please encourage your children to remember their library books on their day and to
continue to borrow!

Creative and Performing Arts at
Braddock in 2017
Excellence and opportunity in Creative & Performing Arts is an integral part of the fine reputation we
foster at Braddock Public School and is a fertile key-learning area we continue to facilitate and grow
at Braddock Public School.
During 2017, you will see “Yellow Cluster” transformed into a dedicated space where the creative
and performing arts will flourish for our students as they engage in a diverse and engaging suite of
creative opportunities.
Music. Cultural & Contemporary Dance. Band. Painting. Drama. Acting. Singing. Storytelling. Media.
Choir. Costuming. Make-up. Stage & Sets. Environmental Art. Printing. Light & Sound.
Inspired art.
Creative Performances.
Creative opportunities throughout the year for all students!!
Soon the new space in Yellow Cluster will be ready.
It will be a very busy and exciting year with much planned . . . projects like these . . .
In the next few weeks, starting with Kindergarten, all students and school staff will be invited to
paint their own “Foundation Brick” in the foyer of the “new” Yellow Cluster whilst others will
commence a segmented “War & Peace” mural that we will aim to present to the audience at
our Anzac Day Assembly.
Another group will construct an installation that will feature flashing lights arranged on a metal-
mesh panel that will be suspended from the ceiling in Yellow Cluster.
Make sure you drop-in and see how it all works out and also find out what else is happening.
You might like to contribute or participate in some way.
As always, we are very eager to have parents, carers and family members join us during these pro-
jects, so please let us know if you’d like to participate in some way . . . and have yourself a creative
year !!

Welcome back to the new school year at Braddock Public School,
and what a wonderful school it is.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is
Pauline Bentham and I have been appointed as the Deputy Principal
for Braddock Public School for 2017.
I have had the opportunity to visit many of the classrooms at Brad-
dock PS and what a delightful experience this has been. Visiting
classrooms and working with students is the part of my job that I
love the most. I am looking forward to getting to know the students as the term pro-
gresses. My visits to the classroom has enabled me to witness students and staff who
are committed to embracing the new year with vigour and enthusiasm. Classrooms are
buzzing with excitement and learning is well underway.
I have felt very welcomed over the last two weeks and I would like to thank students,
staff and parents for welcoming me into the Braddock school community. I am very
much looking forward to getting to know you all and to be a part of the broader Brad-
dock community.

vice started at Braddock PS on Mon-
day 30th January. If you are interested
in accessing this service for your chil-
dren, please call 4732 7844. The ser-
vice runs out of our school hall every
morning and afternoon.
School Hats
It is expected that all
students wear a school
hat.
For students to play in
unshaded areas, a school
hat must be worn.

Kindergarten - first days at
school!
.
Did you know that our whole school attendance target is 93%? That means
we expect all students to be at school for 93% of the school year, which
means that students should have no more that 12 days absent for the en-
tire year. We want all of our students to get the best out of the school
year, so we encourage excellent attendance.
Of course children get sick, so please be sure to let us know by note or
phone if your child is sick and will miss school.
Attendance
Uniforms are
available
in the front office.
