THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the parents who
attended our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday evening.
We reached a quorum and therefore were abe to
vote on the school fees for 2018.
Your commitment and dedication to the school is
appreciated.
At the Annual General Meeting on 25 October it was agreed that the school fees for 2018 would
be as follows:
SCHOOL FEES – R13 277,00
per annum
OPTION A: R11 285,00 (15% discount) (To be paid by 31 March 2018)
OPTION B: - Debit Order & Monthly Payments: R13 277,00 (R1 207,00 per month x 11 months)
As we will be making up Christmas hampers for our groundstaff and selected charities, we are
requesting donations of the following items:
Grade 1: Pasta, rice, canned foods, eg. Baked
beans, bully beef, tinned fish, tinned fruit, etc. Grade 2: Sugar, flour, maize meal.
Grade 3 & Spec. Ed: Tea, coffee, biscuits, soups.
Grade 4: Long-life milk, powdered milk, cooking
oil, canned foods. Grade 5: Condiments – salt, pepper. Sauces,
2 Minute Noodles. Grae 6: Jam, peanut butter, Bovril, sandwich
spread.

We also welcome any pre-packed grocery hampers

have P.E. or are playing sport after school.

EXCITING NEWS: Please note, that due to many parent requests, Brackenhurst Primary P.E.
uniform will be undergoing a colour
transformation. We are changing from our white and red P.E. golf shirts to the red and black P.E.
golf shirts. These will be available from Term 4. It is not compulsory as yet to have these shirts
and will be phased in from 2018, starting with Grade 1. However, if you wish to purchase for
your child you are welcome to change as from
Term 4.

Karate Instructor Sensie Laurent Gaston Bellegarde – currently
qualified 6th Dan and registered with the
SHOTOKAN INTERNATIONAL SHOTOKAN RYU KARATE ORGANISATION will be giving classes at
Brackenhurst Primary School to teach students the art of Karate.
Sensei Laurent has witnessed in the past 21
years of teaching Karate, the following positive
results in the students training the art of Karate.
Improved balance and co-ordination, self discipline, self motivated, increase in
achievements, self confidence, respect toward
others, assertiveness and career orientated.

E-LEARNING LEVY
A Resolution was passed at the Annual General
Meeting in October and agreed to by parents
that an annual levy of R350,00 per child for E-Pubs (publications loaded onto the tablet), will
be paid by end December 2016. This levy is for Grades 4 – 7. If we do not receive this levy, we
will not be able to load the software onto your child’s tablet and they will continue working from
hard copy text books.
In addition a further Resolution was passed that
an annual levy of R200,00 per child for learners Grade 1 – 3 will be paid before end January
2017. This will cover the cost of the trolley
solution with tablets we have purchased for our Foundation Phase learners.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: IF YOU PAY THE R350,00 (INTERSEN PHASE) OR R200,00 (FOUNDATION PHASE) VIA EFT, REFERENCE TO BE USED IS YOUR CHILD’S NAME AND E-LEVY. DO NOT PAY THIS AMOUNT WITH YOUR SCHOOL FEES. IT MUST BE A SEPARATE PAYMENT. IF YOU PUT THE PAYMENT THROUGH WITH SCHOOL FEES IT WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO E-LEVY.
INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD LEVY
As we now have interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, a Resolution was passed at the
Annual General Meeting in October where a whiteboard levy of R100,00 per child per year
will be charged for the maintenance of
interactive whiteboards during the course of 2017.
Please send the money as soon as possible in a
clearly marked envelope “WHITEBOARD LEVY” and your child’s name and hand it in to
your child’s register teacher. PLEASE DO NOT
DO AN EFT FOR THE WHITEBOARD LEVY.

Chess practice has come to an end from
20 October, except

Bread Tags and Bottle Tops:
We are collecting bread tags and bottle tops for wheelchairs. These must be taken to Mrs
Wheeler’s class (LSEN).
We have already managed to donate 14 wheelchairs and have now received another
wheelchair which we have donated to Stepping
Stone Hospice.

‘Help-U’ Advertiser:
The ‘Help-U’ advertiser is published once a month at the end of the month. The cost of an
ad is R50,00 per month. Adverts must be business card size. If you want to advertise in
the ‘Help-U’ Advertiser, please forward details together with the money to Lynn Voordecker at
the school office. No pictures – just wording.

SOME FASCINATING FACTS! How many holes are there in an average Marie biscuit, what are they there for and how do you count them? There are between 16 and 23 holes per biscuit
and therefore an average of 19. The holes are called docker holes, and they are there to allow
steam to be released from the innards of the
biscuit during baking, which would otherwise cause them to swell and bubble.
The traditional way of counting docker holes is
by spreading a thick layer of soft butter on one
Marie, covering that biscuit with another Marie and squeezing them together, and then counting
the number of butter “worms.”
