HAYDN,JOSEPH - Die Schopfung (The Creation)

Following Mahler’s Ninth and Bruckner’s Fifth, this live recording of Joseph Haydn’s «The Creation» is already the third CD recording to feature the masterly Bernard Haitink at the helm of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Haitink has been a guest conductor of the orchestra for over 50 years now. Haydn’s oratorio «The Creation», first performed in 1798, instantly became an established part of the repertoire and the greatest success the composer had ever experienced. Today, it still ranks as an important test for any ensemble of soloists, choir and orchestra. The Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and its Choir joined forces for this recording, together with a team of renowned soloists. The solo parts of the three archangels are sung by renowned soprano Camilla Til-ling, Mark Padmore, who can also be heard in the BR-KLASSIK recording of Britten’s «War Requiem», and bass-baritone Hanno Müller-Brachmann who, as a representative of the younger generation, is enjoying a remarkable operatic, lieder and concert career.

LANG,DAVID - Love Fail

Composed by David Lang, love fail is a meditation on the timelessness of love that weaves together details from the story of Tristan and Isolde with more modern sources. The re-cording also spotlights the singular and magical sound of the vocal quartet Anonymous 4, whose longstanding commitment to medieval music and historical scholarship has been acclaimed worldwide. The music and libretto pull together narratives of love from such sources as Lydia Davis, Marie de France, Gottfried von Strassburg, Béroul, Thomas of Britain and Richard Wagner. love fail was commissioned by The Brooklyn Academy of Music’s 2012 Next Wave Festival, The International Festival of Arts & Ideas, The John F. Kennedy Center Abe Fortas Memorial Fund, The Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA, The Wake Forest University/Secrest Artists Series, and Hancher Performances at the University of Iowa.

CHAUSSON/ BRAHMS/HINDEMITH/… - Melancholy

Melancholy, that wavering mood Heinrich Heine aptly captured in the line ‘I don’t know what it means that I am so sad’ in his poem Lorelei, has inspired countless artists, especially poets and musicians. Above all in the genre of song. this recital now presents a splendid selection, and the program offers many a find that is rather on the periphery of the cus-tomary song repertoire. Moreover, the palette of colour is expanded by the fact that the accompaniment is not only entrusted to the piano, but is also in a chamber music version. Mezzo-soprano Lucia Duchoňová hails from Trnava in western Slovakia. Her first solo CD featuring compositions by Joaquin Turina was nominated for a Grammy Award in the cate-gory ‘The Best Vocal Performance’ in 2010.
