The BP Slagboom station in Amsterdam is your typical gas station and convenience store. Customers can fuel up their gas tanks and purchase snacks, drinks and a variety of other products from one convenient location.

BP Slagboom wanted a way to reduce the number of drive offs. In addition, many customers would purposefully give the gas station attendants the wrong pump number in order to pay lower amounts than the gas that they actually pumped. A video surveillance system was the best solution, but it also needed to integrate with their current third-party systems. The station attendants needed a way to visually confirm customers with their vehicles and gas pumps.

Emka Safarm, a local security integrator, worked with the franchise owner to select a video security system with the best cameras and video management system (VMS) software to solve their problems.

Emka Safarm installed the exacqVision VMS on a third-party server along with four 5-megapixel IP cameras from EverFocus. Fourteen existing analog cameras were utilized by connecting them to the exacqVision server via a 16-channel IP encoder. Cameras were placed strategically above gas pumps and throughout the property so as to provide coverage of each pump island as well as the convenience store.

To monitor the activity, Emka set up the exacqVision client on a remote work-station at the cash register and another work station in the store office. The exacqVision system was integrated with BP Slagboom’s existing ABT license plate recognition (LPR) software and the Tokheim electronic point-of-sale (EPOS) software running on the individual Tokheim fuel pumps to create a complete, integrated solution.

A significant benefit of the exacqVision solution is its seamless integration with third-party systems into one interface. The existing ABT Software LPR system and Tokheim software both integrated with the exacqVision client. This gives the BP gas station owner and duty managers an easy way to centrally manage the video security at the station. Attendants can take advantage of the powerful, ad-vanced features of the LPR system and also the exacqVision system. As a result, store attendants and the store owner can clearly define the license plates of the cars at the station and identify drivers.

Through the integration, the Tokheim EPOS serial data is sent to the exacqVision system. Gas station attendants see an image at the start and completion of a fueling at each pump. When the customer comes into the store to pay, the attendant pulls the corresponding video in the exacqVision client to the appropriate pump to verify the person pictured at that pump is the one paying for the gas. Within the exacqVision software, the Tokheim data can be searched by receipt, pump number, event or time.
