SMALL ANIMAL SHOWS

The Dog Show (Showmanship and Obedience) will begin at 4:30 p.m. on July 8, 2014at

the Boyd County Fairgrounds in Spencer. The Potluck Picnic will begin at 6:30 p.m. in

the Kitchen Building. Each family is to bring meat dishes, salads, buns, desserts, drinks

and table service. The Small Animal Show will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the registration.

Show order will be as follows: Dogs (Conformation Only), Cats (kittens followed by

cats, broke into groups of indoor and outdoor); Rabbits (bucks followed by does,

broke into groups by age); Other Small Animals and Poultry. All small animals (4-H,

FFA and Open Class) needed to be registered by May 1. The next activity will be the

Presentation Contest and will also be held in the Kitchen Building . All 4-H and FFA

members who will be giving a presentation must pre-register with the Boyd County

Extension Office by June 15. A form is available at online. You will also need to inform

the Extension Office if you need any equipment for your presentation.

Please remember that as a 4-H exhibitor you must follow the dress code. Check the

4-H Regulations book for the proper dress code for each of these activities.

T R A C T O R D R I V I N G C O N T E S T

The Tractor Driving Registration and Release Form is due in Office on June 15, 2014. All ages can take the quiz and complete the practical’s but only those youths 12 and older can drive the course. Participants will answer all questions on the quiz, identify incorrect or faulty maintenance and safety items, identify parts, and drive the course. Only Senior Division participants are eligible for State Fair competition. This contest will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Boyd County Fairgrounds in Spencer.

There are several Pre-Fair Day forms that are due soon. These form let the office know

what you will be exhibiting at Tractor Operator Contest; Presentations; Pre-Fair; the

Public Fashion Show and at the Fair. This information helps the organization for these

days. Schedules can be set and lists made for the judges. Your help in supplying this

information is appreciated. Most of these forms are due June 15, 2014.

PRE-FAIR DAY - JUNE 30

Pre-Fair Day will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the West Boyd School in Spencer. This date includes all modeling, all sewing construction, all Consumer Management Exhibits, the Family and Consumer Science Judging Contest and the Horticulture Judging Contest. The Public Fashion Show will be held on Thursday, July 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church Hall in Spencer. Also held on this day is the Table Setting Contest and the Music Contest.

Pre-Fair Day Registration Form (*133.0 kb pdf file - 2 pages)2 pages - first page is Construction Information and second page is Modeling/Fashion Show Information. (print form, then fill in and mail to office) Modeling Narrative Fill In Form (fill-in form, then print and mail, or email to office - *399.0 kb pdf file) This form is read while you model before the judge and before the public at the Fashion Show. Keep a copy so that you can practice modeling at home while someone reads your narrative. This Adobe Form has two reset buttons. "Reset All" will remove ALL of your typed in information. "Reset Some" will remove only the cost of garment, project name and your narrative. It also has an email button and a print button. Shopping in Style - two types of forms - either a doc file or a pdf file Use this form for Shopping in Style Fashion Revue. You do not need a separate modeling narrative since this form has one included with it.

PUBLIC FASHION SHOW, TABLE SETTING CONTEST AND MUSIC CONTEST - JULY 17 The Public Fashion Show, Table Setting Contest and Music Contest will be held on Thursday, July 17 at St. Mary’s Hall in Spencer.

4-H’ers exhibiting a table setting entry will given a schedule at Pre-Fair Day. This will be judged prior to the Fashion Show and the

results will be announced at the conclusion of evening’s events. The Fashion Show will begin at 8:00 p.m. ALL exhibits modeled at

Pre-Fair Day NEED to be modeled at the Fashion Show.

4-H’ers with a music contest entry need to get the name of their selections and authors/composers to the office prior to Fashion

Show. They are also reminded to turn in a copy of their music so that it can be given it to the judge. If you are having an individual

entry in the music contest you will need to mark it on your Pre-Fair Day Entry Form and fill out the individual entry form.

Leaders are reminded to return the song contest, booth, banner, and parade float entry form by June 15 to register their club. This

4-H ENTOMOLOGY PINNING OPEN SESSION A 4-H Entomology Pinning Open Session will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Holt County Courthouse An-nex, O’Neill. Come anytime during the session to learn how receive assistance with your pinning. We will help with techniques or questions you may have. Bring: insects, pinning boards, and pins.

OTHER FORMS Entry Tag Form - This entry tag form is to let the Extension Office know exactly what you will exhibit at the 2014 Boyd County Fair. We need to know the Department - Division - Class - Number from the fair regulations book and also a description for each item that you will exhibit. Please be VERY descriptive, especially with the home environment exhibits. Some of the food exhibits won't have as much of a description to write - such as "Oatmeal Cookies" but others classes such as "Muffins, Biscuits or Loaf" would need more information - which of the 3 is it, type, etc. This form is due June 30, 2014. The tags for your exhibits are made from this report. The only tags that will not be computer generated will be the flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruits. Please let the office know how many blank tags to send to you for these exhibits also on this form. Use the back of the form or additional sheets of paper if you need to. NOTE: A quick way to fill in the Department - Division - Class Number is to open the online fair book and cut and paste the number that you need.

All of the animal ID affidavits are available for download. Please remember that all ID sheets MUST be turned in June 15 to be eligible to show at the Holt County Fair, State Fair, Ak-Sar-Ben or other 4-H Animal Shows. Don’t forget deadlines for some ID sheets are due at different times, so please reference the Animal ID Guideline link. The Animal ID Guideline link is new this year! Do you know what it takes to pick out the best produce at the grocery store or what judges are observing when they look at plants during county fair? This contest is open to 4-H members and their families,. The horticulture judging contest consists of three parts; judging, knowledge exam, and identification of plant material which can include looking at plant parts, seeds, flowers, or vegetables.
