Scotland's men produced another clean sweep whilethe women's team also won three matches as bothremained Home International champions thissummer.
The women were first in action at LlandrindodWells in Wales and they got off to the perfect startwith a 128-108 win over England that put them inthe driving seat for the rest of the competition.
A comprehensive 132-94 win over their hosts inthe second match was followed by a 143-69 victoryover Jersey which meant the title was all but securedbefore they played their last match against Ireland, such was their advantage in terms of shots up.
The only team they could have lost to by thatstage was England who had completed theirschedule the previous day and the knowledge thatthey could afford to lose by 39 shots perhapsexplained a slightly disappointing finish as they werebeaten 122-111 by Ireland, but the victory tasted noless sweet for that.
The men could afford no such luxury in their four-
nation series on home soil at Sighthill. They, too, got off to a fine start with a 123-89 win
over Ireland. England's 125-89 win over Wales meant that the afternoon meeting with theAuld Enemy would decide who had control goinginto the final day.
As is usually the case every match was keenlycontested, but the Scots only lost one match and a22-12 victory by Alex Marshall's rink meant they hada bit of room to spare in registering a 111-95 overallsuccess.
That meant they had a relatively slender 15 shotadvantage going into the final round of matches andthe situation looked precarious when they fell 23 shots behind early on to Wales.
Some reassurance was being offered at that stageby the fact that Ireland had edged ahead of England however, and the Scots gradually regainedthe ascendancy to complete the series with a thirdwin, 155-108 overall, while Ireland went on to beatEngland and claim the runner-up spot.

Former British Isles Singleschampion Kathy Houston bowedout of the international game byhelping Scotland to a successfuldefence of their Women's HomeInternational title last month.
Following the British IslesInternational Series the 68-year-old announced her retirement atLlandrindod Wells after earningher 60th cap at the end of asuperb career in which she madeevery appearance as a lead.
"It was a hard decision to makebut I wanted to go out on a high,"said the Caledonia BC member.
"I know it is the right decision. Iwant to spend more time with myfamily and they have been a greatsupport to me during myinternational career, they havebeen 100% behind me every stepof the way. Because of my age it isnow time to step aside and givesome of the young players in thegame the same opportunities Ihave had."
Houston's career highlightsinclude winning the British IslesSingles Championships in 2007following her Scottish title win theyear before, as well as finishingthird in the Champion of Champions in Australia in2007.With multiple successes at her Paisley club andat District level, Houston conceded that there weremany great memories from her international careerthat spanned more than a decade.
"Every game has been a highlight for me as well asthe girls I have played with and the many friends Ihave made from visiting countries, but it was extraspecial to claim victory in my last team outing."
Starting out in the game in 1973, Houston provedto be a natural player : "I just picked it up straightaway after watching my dad play and then later on
watching my husband when he joined a club. I neverimagined at that stage that I would later become aninternationalist, it has been brilliant."
Ladies Team Manager Betty Forsyth said: "Kathyhas made an enormous contribution to the ladiesgame over the years and has rightly enjoyed manysuccesses. She will be sorely missed by the playersand her rink as she was one of the best lead playersthat we have had the fortune to have for a numberof years."
"Her sportsmanship and dedication to her teamwere second to none."

Wood bids farewell to outdoor
Emotions ran high at Sighthill earlier this monthas Scotland's greatest ever bowler said farewellto the outdoor international game.
Willie Wood MBE, started as he finished hisglorious career at the highest level by beingpart of a rink that won all three of its matchesin helping Scotland to a clean sweep and asuccessful defence of their Home Internationaltitle.
It was a fitting end to a career that hadbegun a staggering 45 years earlier and whichhad seen the legend from Gifford set recordswith both his World Championship medal hauland his run of Commonwealth Gamesappearances.
He also retired as a reigning WorldChampion and in those final Scotlandappearances he was accompanied by DavidPeacock, the rink's skip and lead Wayne Hogg, the men with whom he won the Triples goldmedal at his last World Championship in 2008,as well as West Barns club mate AllisterKennedy.
That final weekend began with Alex "Tattie"Marshall, another great of the Scottish gamewho plays out of the Gifford club in Wood's
home village, saying the team was determinedto win it for Willie.
"He's been a great ambassador for Scottishbowls and hugely successful in the majority ofevents he's played in as well, so I think thisweekend will be highly emotional for all theplayers, especially because he's finishing inEdinburgh," said Tattie.
"It will add a little bit of pressure onto us all,but I think we'll all be so keen to do our bestfor Willie and send him off with a winninginternational series and it's one of the bestScotland teams I've ever seen, from every leadright through to every skip."
It ended with Peacock delivering the bowlwhich saw his rink home 16-15 in a matchagainst Wales that they never led until the finalend during which Willie had shown his class byproducing one of the countless touchers of hiscareer.
"Towards the end of the game it was veryemotional for Willie and I felt that way myselfbecause we've played together for a few yearsnow," Peacock said afterwards.
"He's retiring as a world champion but he'snot finished with the game yet. He's going to

to outdoor International gamecontinue to play indoor internationals, buthe's had some outdoor career and I don'tthink it will ever be matched.
"There's not a bad word to be spokenabout Willie either, by anybody."
During the closing ceremony Woodreceived presentations from the captains ofall four countries and before leaving thegreen through a guard of honour formed byall the international players he spoke brieflybut movingly in thanking friends, foes andsupporters for their tributes.
"It was too much for me, it was tooemotional and there was nothing more Icould say," he admitted afterwards.
"It has been so long now, I have spentmore than half of my life playing for Scotland. To get those three wins for the rink and forthe team to manage an unbeaten run toclaim the trophy too - that was the cream.
"I didn't play my best today, the wholetime I was thinking this is the last time I willrepresent my country and it was on my mindthroughout the game but it worked out OKin the end and I am happy with that result.
"I have always had good support over theyears and I always spoke to people if theyspoke to me. I am not being big headed but Ihave been popular and it was nice to be ableto draw a big crowd and I wanted to playwell for them. You need that support andpeople behind you to help you win thingsand I have done that a lot and today wasabsolutely the perfect ending." xxxx

It is hard tobelieve that it isalready fourmonths sinceBowls Scotlandtoured thecountry with ourfirst ever round ofClub Seminars. This year wevisited ninevenues with over450 membersattending andapproximately190 clubsrepresented.
The Seminarswere a greatsuccess in termsof attendances, the feedback we received and thecontribution that those who attended made in thegroup sessions. The information gathered is nowbeing used to help shape our future work plans andto ensure we continue to provide a service whichmeets the needs of our member clubs.
In May we launched Bowls Scotland’s first everClub Membership Drive. The concept is simple ‘toincrease participation in the sport and membershipin our clubs’. If your club has already run an eventthis season then please ensure you have completedthe evaluation form which is downloadable from theBowls Scotland website and return it to us.We hopeto make this campaign even bigger and better in2012 therefore the more clubs take part this yearthe more information we have to develop thisconcept in the future. Full information on the
campaign can befound in theDevelopmentsection of thewebsite.
Bowls Scotlandare currentlyconducting anEquity MonitoringSurvey which allmembers areinvited tocomplete. As wellas meeting ourrequirements forEquity thisinformation isextremelyimportant forgathering up-to-
date profile information for our sport which helpsour future development work. The Survey is availableto download from the Development section of ourwebsite and can also be completed online atwww.surveymonkey.com/s/VKV8NSS. Scotland enjoyed significant success at the British IslesChampionships this summer, with Caroline Brownclaiming the Singles title and Scotland’s men lifting theNatwest Trophy, following wins from Kevin Andersonin the U25’s Singles and the Fisher brothers provingto be Scotland’s heroes as they claimed gold in thePairs.
It was a particularly satisfying win for Anchor duo,Stephen and David Fisher after they lost out in theirDistrict 22 Pairs final in Paisley before returning toSighthill Bowling Club in Edinburgh the followingmorning to resume their challenge on the BritishPairs title. Defeating the youthful Jersey pairing ofGreg and Ross Davis 22-19 in what proved to be a
dramatic final at the end of a difficult week for theScots, Skip Stephen said afterwards, “This feelsfantastic, I am delighted after what we have beenthrough.”
Victory in that Pairs Final secured Scotland theoverall win following another great performancefrom up and coming star Kevin Anderson. The 19year old Dumbarton player got off to a bumpy startin his final, going 5-0 down after two ends, but wenton to win the next six ends to take control of thematch with a 12-5 lead. Ireland’s Gary Kelly brieflyrallied to get back within range at 13-10 down, butfrom that point Anderson steadily stretched hisadvantage to run out a 21-12 winner.
Claiming the first British Isles Junior title forScotland since 1995, Anderson has ambitions to gofar in the game, “Being a national U25 Champ andBritish Isles title holder is great, but I would like toget a world title in the future” he said.
Motherwell’s Caroline Brown stormed to victory inher final against Jersey’s Karina Bisson 21-4 to claimher first senior British Isles Singles title at LlandrindodWells,Wales.
A delighted Brown said after her victory, “It feelsabsolutely fantastic to win this title. To come to anevent like this and try your best for your country andfor your family totally makes it all worthwhile and tocome away with gold is great.”
