When you call us we’ll ask you some questions to find out about your specific move requirements and in most cases will arrange for a Move Consultant to visit to undertake a pre-move survey.
If you would prefer, or if you only have a small amount to be moved we can send you a self survey form to complete and return to calculate your own volume to be moved. This information is then passed on to your Move Consultant who will produce your tailor made move plan and quotation.
Once you have decided you are moving you’ll want to begin making your removals arrangements. We advise doing this as much in advance as you can but don't worry, our resources are flexible and we can happily help with your last minute move requirements.
Are you moving?1 We can arrange for one of our Move Consultants to visit your home prior to your move to carry out a free of charge, no obligation full survey of your property and discuss your personal specific moving requirements to provide you with a tailored quote.
Things to Remember
- Use plenty of packing paper and padding for items
- Make sure any outdoor items are carefully cleaned and clear of any traces of soil
- Fridges and Freezers will need defrosting and washing machines draining before the move
- Be careful not to pack any flammable or hazardous goods such as paint, aerosols or gas
Things to Remember
Self assembly furniture will need to be dismantled prior to the move.
If the attic or loft is not boarded and lit or does not have safe access our crew cannot enter. Any items will need to be taken down and placed in another room ready to be moved.
It is a good idea to keep important documentation separate and carry it with you personally or make sure to scan an electronic copy first.
Unless you've arranged for us to do so, fixtures and fittings / curtains / blinds will need to be taken down ready to be packed and moved by the crew.
Top Tip
Dont forget to let people know you're moving, it's always best to let them know as soon as possible once details are finalised. Check out our website for a list of people to inform.
Helpful Tip
Moving overseas is a big event in anyone’s life. If you have children make sure to tell the children what is happening, and include them in the process (maybe home selection, planning rooms or area reasearch) as much as possible. If the kids are happy and they feel included in the decision making process, they will "take ownership" of their new home and the transition will be much easier for everyone. See our guide to moving with children for more advice.
Pre-Move Survey2 Once your shipment has arrived at destination we will arrange for it to clear customs and be delivered to your new home. As you concentrate on settling in and enjoying your new home our crew will unload all your belongings and place them in the correct rooms at your request. If you have selected unpacking services we will then unpack and place your items on to flat surfaces exactly whereyou require as per your move plan.

Practice makes perfect, but so does planning. From your move specification obtained at your pre-move survey every extra detail is planned to ensure your move runs smoothly - and most importantly, remains stress free for you.
Your move consultant will create a tailored plan for your move. This planning ensures all the resources, your crew, the packing materials required are all in place. Your Move Consultant will handle any concerns you have about lifting or moving carpets, dealing with chandeliers, crating thatspecial picture, disposingof surplus effects and anynumber of others you mayhave. Once you are happy withyour quotation please call us toprovisionally book your move dateand then sign and return youracceptance form.
Your Move Plan3 Your team leader will introduce his crew and do a walk through of the property with you to make sure you're both happy with his plans for move day. If there is anything you want kept separately or anything you don’t want to be moved either move these items to a dedicated area of your home or point them out to the team leader on arrival. Once all packing and loading is complete your consignment will be transported to its destination by your chosen method
of shipment and we'll keep you up to date with its progress.
Your Move Day5
If you have selected our full packing services there are only a couple of things you need to do to prepare some items to move. In your move plan we will list specifically any tasks that you have not selected for our crews to undertake and will therefore be your responsibility to complete prior to the crew arrival.
If you're doing your own packing make sure to start in plenty of time and let us know if you think you might need some extra help with this or would like to buy packing materials.

Before deciding whether to pack yourself or ask us to do it think carefully about the time and materials required to pack and most importantly the packing skills required to ensure your items arrive safely. If you're unsure why not ask us to provide a packing cost as an optional upgrade? There may also be destinations where self packing is not advised, your move consultant will discuss this with you.

Bournes average international customer takes around 700 cubic feet of belongings with them but we can handle moves of any size. Last year we handled moves ranging from single items to more than 5000 cubic feet.
Depending on your destination, shipping by sea
can take from a few weeks to several months, so Bournes also offer air freight options
