CHEMISTRY
Chemistry is the physical science that studies the composition of substances and the
elemental forms of matter. Everything is made of chemicals; this makes chemistry an
incredibly important branch of science. Even things that are alive, such as plants and animals,
are made up of elements that interact with one another. Chemistry helps us in understanding
the interplay between living things and the world around them.
Understanding chemistry can also help people stay safe. This is because elements and
compounds can be studied in the laboratory, and the results can be applied in the real world.
From the study of the toxicity of certain chemicals to the ability to predict when food expires
or goes bad, chemistry helps people consume and use chemicals safely in their day-to-day
lives.
Plan of action for quality enhancement:
POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS/SEMINARS:-
General laboratory safety measure.
Acid Value and Saponification value of oil and fats.
Acne Management.
Carrier options in the field of chemistry.
Quality Enhancement
Aid of charts, models, seminars etc.
Student classroom Teaching
Linking Theoretical
Chemistry with Practical’s.
Use of ICT for teaching.
6
Importance of Chemistry in daily life:-medicines, dyes, energy sources, cosmetics etc.
Adulteration in food stuffs.
REVIEW OF THE PRESENTATIONS
Carrier options in the field of chemistry:
Analytical chemist: They use a diverse range of methods to investigate the chemical
nature of substances. The aim is to identify and understand the substance and how it
behaves in different conditions.
Chemical engineer: They alter raw materials into required products while taking
into consideration health and safety and cost issues.
Healthcare scientist, clinical biochemistry: Healthcare scientists working in
clinical biochemistry analyze samples taken from patients' blood, urine or other
bodily fluids to help with the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Forensic scientist: They provide impartial scientific evidence for use in courts of law
to support the prosecution or defense in criminal and civil investigations.
Pharmacologist: They aim to understand how drugs work so they can be used
effectively and safely. They also conduct research to aid drug discovery and
development.
Research scientist (physical sciences): Scientific research involves designing and
conducting experiments to collect physical evidence of natural phenomena.

Group Work/ Co-operative Learning
Students were made to work in small groups and were given assignments and projects
dealing with practical applications of various course topics like:
Demand forecasting of consumer durables.
Study of price elasticity of necessities, comforts and luxuries.
Working in teams is a common part of the business environment and may be an approach
companies take to certain tasks, responsibilities or special projects. While it can be
challenging for different personality types to work together on a common goal, it has its
advantages, both for the company and the people involved. Thus group activities are
encouraged. Group work has proved to be very effective in grounding the abstract ideas into
more concrete terms that are easier for students to understand. Students are encouraged to
become active rather than passive learners by developing collaborative and co-operative
skills. It also encourages the development of critical thinking skills. However, sometimes
problems like students’ unwillingness to participate, problem of co-ordination, only one
student dominant in the group etc. These problems were overcome by adopting the strategy
of assigning some portion of work to each member and marking them individually on their
respective performance.
Group discussions were also held on various topics to help students develop communicative
and analytical skills.
15
Community Service
This is a practice continuously carried out. Our students are actively involved in various
community outreach activities. They regularly visit old age homes, orphanages and schools

activities.

towards Mobile Companies, Private vs. Public Banks.

The modern world owes its existence and progress to mathematics. It has also played a
significant role in the development of physical and social sciences. Mathematics is one of the
most fascinating sciences. It is universal and important as all other sciences use and need
mathematical knowledge. In fact there exists no branch of science and engineering in which
some mathematical procedure is not found essential. That is why Bacon had rightly
remarked “ Mathematics is gate way and key to all sciences”.
LEARNING GOALS
The main goal of the Mathematics department in educating majors is to provide them with a
disciplinary training that will be of use to them in a variety of different careers.
OBJECTIVES

able to:
1. Recognize that mathematics is an art as well as a powerful foundational tool of science with
limitless applications.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical concepts and axiomatic underpinnings of
mathematics and an ability to construct proofs at the appropriate level.
3. Demonstrate competency in mathematical modeling of complex phenomena, problem
solving and decision making.
4. Demonstrate a level of proficiency in quantitative and computing skills sufficient to meet the
demands of society upon modern educated women as global leaders.

Placing an Aquarium in the laboratory
96
Step 1: Set up Aquarium and Stand
Place aquarium out of direct sunlight, allowing at least 5" clearance for the filter. Allow 5"
between the wall and the aquarium to accommodate the filter, and ensure the stand is level.
Be certain this is a good location for the aquarium, as you will have to completely disassemble
the system if you want to move it later.
Step 2: Add Gravel and Water
Use a plate when adding water to prevent gravel displacement. Rinse the gravel in clean
water and add it to the aquarium, sloping it up towards the back. Place clean plate on top of
gravel and start to fill the aquarium with water. If your tap water contains chlorine, add our
Chlorine Neutralizer.
Step 3: Install Filter and Heater
Install equipment, but do not plug anything in yet.
Assemble and hang the power filter on back of aquarium.
Attach the thermometer in a place that is easy for you to monitor.
Assemble and install the heater under water level, near input to filter.
Step 4: Decorate
Add decorations, but leave plenty of swimming room for fish. Step 4
Rinse all the plants with clear water.
Place all the background plants, arrange the driftwood, add accent and foreground plants,
along with a few special stones.
Fill aquarium and filter with water.
Plug in filter and heater.
Wait 24 hours for water temperature to stabilize before adding fish.
Step 5: Add Fish
97
Add about 10" of fish initially to establish the nitrogen cycle.
After properly acclimating fish, release them into the aquarium (without adding the water
they were shipped in).
Add on the light and canopy.
Wait four weeks and test for ammonia and nitrite. When the levels return to zero, you can
begin adding the rest of your fish a few at a time (up to 55 inches total). Or, use our Live
Nitrifying Bacteria to quickly establish biological filtration and cycle your aquarium.
