Steve’s re:Invent Survival Tips
▪ Turn off Slack (Yes, both laptop and phone)– Except during keynotes...because they usually announce
significant new features.
▪ Don’t do work. I know I know.▪ Mingle with execs and VCs
– They’ll be at the tables…drinks will be flowing -- Great time to chat.
▪ You don’t have to be near the front at the keynotes– There are big screens everywhere...no need to be that up close
and personal.
▪ Go outside...at least once.▪ There are A LOT of nerds. Geek out!▪ Get to the taxi line early! I’ve had 45+ minute waits.

▪ Go meet your vendors and talk to their engineers.– Many will love to open up about their roadmap.– Ask: “What have you done since the last re:Invent?”– When meeting new vendors, request a live demo to get beyond
“marketing speak.”▪ Visit startup alley.▪ Join impromptu gatherings on hot topics.
– The one for startups to make the most of AWS last year had great info.
▪ Check out the giveaways. I got 9 shirts last year!
