BOSQUE / FOREST – INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY AT MINDO / ECUADOR No Lugar – Arte Contemporáneo, in context with its 2017 Residency Program, opens the call for the International Artistic Residency ‘Bosque / Forest’, which goes under the research and artistic production modality. Bosque / Forest’ international collective artist residency is part of No Lugar’s Residency Program. The program gathers together to artists, curators and researchers in order to live and work in a specific context, in this matter, special emphasis will be placed in the importance based on dialogue with landscape, territory and those who inhabit it. Mindo is the rural town where the residency will take place. It is located 80 km away from Quito. It’s a place mainly dedicated to agriculture, cattle raising and tourism, surrounded by the Protector Forest Mindo Nambillo. It has a privileged bio-diverse weather, rivers and mountains cross it; an ideal place for butterflies, birds, orchids, ferns between other species that prosper in the zone. Mindo is a scenario that allows thinking about contemporary artistic production outside from an urban context. The residents will be living at ‘Mindo Manga’, a hundred years old patrimonial house. By the end of the Residency, the selected artists and researchers will present their processes in a local public event. Afterwards an enlarged version of the results from the residency’s results will be shown at No Lugar’s exhibition space in Quito, in agreement with the participants. Guidelines: - Artists, curators, Biologists, critics, ecologists, theorists, historians, educators, researchers, art critics and other cultural agents whose professional practice is related to contemporary art, communitarian work and/or natural territory and landscape research can apply.

- Send a pdf document to: [email protected] with the following

information: o Personal data (Name, e-mail, city, country and birth date, 10 line bio with

relevant works and CV). o 3 to 5 images of previous works. o We recommend images to be 640 px by 480 px and not manipulated. o In case of video or audio works, send a link to a website with the content. o If you’re not an artist you can send publications, texts or researches related

to contemporary art. Conditions:

- Bedrooms are shared between 3 to 4 people per room. - Participants must keep a diary about the residency; this could be in different media

such as text, video or photography. These will be uploaded to No Lugar’s Residency website.

- Residents will have a specific activity schedule. - Invitation letters will be sent to those selected. - Participation certificates will be issued to all the participants.

Participants: The residency has a maximum capacity of 12 people, and it will take place from June 10th to June 25th, 2017. Investment: USD$ 400 (15 days). Includes: 15 days of accommodation, curatorial accompaniment, shared bedrooms between 3-4 people, mobilization from Quito to Mindo and back to Quito, dinning room, fully equipped bathrooms, equipped kitchen, workshop, research studio, promotion of the residency processes, a collective closing event of the residency and a participation certificate. Not included: Mobilization expenses from the city/country origin to Quito and back, general expenses, lunch, dinner, specific materials. Invitation letters will be sent to those selected. Interest information:

- The house where the Residency will take place is located a few minutes from town (Mindo) and it’s possible to walk there, it’s also one of the first patrimonial houses of the zone.

- The town counts with cybers, coffees and places for internet access. - Mindo and the house count with all basic services, a health care center, markets,

grocery stores, drugstores and a variety of restaurants with local and international food.

- Mindo is located in a valley. It has about 2500 habitants who are dedicated mainly to agriculture, cattle raising and tourism.

- The place’s temperature goes between 15 º C – 24 º C (60 º F – 75 º F) During all year, from June to September the weather turns dry.

- Mindo-Nambillo Protecting Forest has a 19.200 hectares area that surrounds the entire town.
