CLASSES - Divided by Sex Regular Classes: Jr (6-9), Sr (9-12), (12-18), Cdn Bred, Bred By Ex, Open, Veteran (divided 7-10 yrs, 10 + yrs), Specials Only & Altered (spayed/neutered dogs allowed in Veterans) Non – Regular: Baby Puppy (3-6), Exhibition Only, Extended Generation.

STUD DOG: for any sire and 2 or more of his get. Sire and get need not be owned by the same person. Class to be judged on the merits of the get.

BROOD BITCH: for any dam and 2 or more of her progeny. Dam and get need not be owned by the same person. Class to be judged on the merits of the get.

BRACE: This class shall be for 2 dogs of the same breed (not necessarily of the same sex). A Brace should be judged as an identical pair – same colour, size, gait, and same stride. When viewed from the side they should appear as one dog and its shadow. A brace must be handled by 1 person on 1 lead. Do NOT need identical ownership.

TEAM CLASS: The requirements for this class are the same as those for the Brace Class except that 4 dogs shall be entered. Do NOT need identical owner-ship

LURE COURSING CLASS: for dogs and bitches that have either completed their CKC, ASFA or AKC lure coursing championship or have attained points towards same.

Dogs entered in the Non-Regular classes must also be entered in a regular class or for Exhibition only, except for Stud and Dam whose progeny MUST be en-tered in a regular class. Spayed and neutered dogs may be entered but must also be entered in the Altered Classes, Veteran Classes or Exhibition Only.

TROPHIES AND ROSETTES Through the generosity of friends and members, Borzoi Canada is pleased to offer rosettes and/or trophies for the following: Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Best Puppy in Breed, Best of Winners, Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, Re-serve Winners Dog, Reserve Winners Bitch, Best Veteran, Award of Merit, Best Bred By Exhibitor in Breed, Best Brace, Best Stud Dog, Best Brood Bitch, Best in Lure Coursing Class, Best Baby Puppy in Breed

AWARD OF MERIT: At the judge’s discretion, Award of Merit Rosettes maybe awarded up to one Award for every ten dogs competing for Best of Breed, which will be presented following Best of Breed judging

PERPETUAL TROPHY: BEST OF BREED: The Audrey Benbow Memorial Trophy will be offered to the Best of Breed winner at the Specialty and will be presented in memory of Audrey Benbow of Sirhan Borzoi. The trophy will re-main in the possession of Borzoi Canada and a keeper trophy will be awarded to the winner.

Championship Points and Cancellations Section 15.1.1 A dog awarded Winners at a conformation show shall be cred-ited with a number of championship points (ranging from 0 to 5) and the number of championship points credited to a dog awarded as Winners shall be as provided hereunder. Section 15.1.2 The schedule to be employed in the determination of the num-ber of points awarded Winners shall be as follows:

In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disquali-fied, dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge shall be in-cluded in the calculation for championship points. Section 15.1.3 If a dog awarded Winners was also awarded then at the show all dogs competing in the breed, including Specials Only, shall be included in the total. Section 15.1.4 If a dog awarded Winners is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, then all dogs of the same sex, including those compet-ing in Specials Only, shall be included in the total. Section 15.1.5 If a dog awarded Winners is also awarded Best of Winners, then all dogs defeated di- rectly or indirectly in the breed shall be included in the total. Section 15.1.6 If a dog is awarded Winners only, than all the dogs of the same sex in the class compe- tition shall be included in the total. Section 15.1.7 The number of championship points to be credited to a dog awarded Winners shall be determined by the highest award earned and calcu-lated as per this section. Clarrification: Example of directly or indirectly defeating: If the Winners Bitch is awarded Best of Op- posite Sex but not Best of Winners, the Best of Winners Male shall be deemed to have indirectly de- feated all the Specials Bitches, and is thus entitled to add them to the number of dogs and bitches defeated. Section 15.1.8 In addition to championship points allocated at the breed level, a dog awarded Winners which also places in the regular Group competition shall be credited with the following additional points provided that the dog was defeated at the Group level.

Section 15.1.9 A dog may not be credited with more than 5 championship points in a single show. Section 15.1.10 A breed or class shall not be allowed more than 2 sets of championship points per sex on any day in the same venue. Section 15.1.11 A dog awarded Winners which also places Best in Show at an all-breed conformation show shall be credited with 5 championship points inclusive of any points earned at the breed and group level. Section 15.1.12In order for a dog to be recognized as a Champion and its owner provided with a Championship certificate, the dog must:

A) earn at least 10 championship points under 3 different judges; and B) be individually registered in the records of the CKC or have an Event Registration Number; C) have earned at least one 2 point win either at the breed or group level.

Rules Governing This Show 1. The Club reserves the right to remove any person from the show. The Show Superintendent shall have full control of the show, which will be governed by CKC Rules.

2. Any person participating in any capacity at a Dog Show held under CKC Rules shall not be subjected to indignities of any kind during the process of the show, and it shall be the obligation of the Club holding the show to see that this rule is effectively carried out.

3. A judge officiating at a Show held under CKC Rules shall not be subjected to any indignities of any kind during the progress of the show, and it shall be the duty and obligation of the Club holding the show to see that this rule is effectively carried out. The Show Superintendent shall promptly investigate

and immediately report to the CKC any infringement of this Rule, and the Discipline Committee shall have the power to take such action as it deems fit on report that this Rule has been violated (DSR Ch. 8, Sec 14.)

4. No entry fees will be refunded if the Show cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, and Act of God, public emergency, act of public enemy, strikes or any other causes beyond the control of the Club.

5. The Show Committee will use due care and diligence for the welfare of the dogs and exhibitors, but will not be responsible for, or assume any liabili-ty in the event of accident, loss or other misfortune to either dogs, exhibitors, or patrons. 6. The welfare of the exhibitor’s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the exhibitor. It is distinctly understood that exhibitors will exercise control and restraint over their children on the day of the show.

7. The owner of a dog entered in these Shows is entirely responsible for any error in entering his dog, regardless of how or by whom the entry was made.

8. Dogs must be on the grounds one hour prior to judging of their breeds and may be removed when not required for further judging. Exhibitors are reminded that they must have their dogs at ringside when needed for judg-ing. There will be no paging of individual dogs. No ring will be held up waiting for exhibitors or handlers.

9. Exhibitors are solely responsible for the conduct or actions of their ani-mals while they are on the show grounds. All dogs must be kept on leash.

10. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Please exercise your dog before taking it to the Judging ring. Dogs are to be exercised in des-ignated areas only, and not in the vicinity of the rings.

11. Any dog excused by the Show Superintendent or the Show Veterinarian for any reason shall not, after being excused, compete in any class for any award for the balance of the show.

12. A dog once disqualified for any reason at a Championship Show held un-der CKC Rules cannot again be shown at Show held under CKC Rules until the dog has been examined by an official commit- tee appointed by the CKC and the committee finds the dog is free from the condition which prompted the disqualification. Application for Reinstatement must be accompanied by the appropriate fee which shall be forfeited to the CKC if the examining commit-tee is satisfied that the dog should remain dis- qualified. All awards earned by a dog shown in violation of the Rule shall be cancelled by the CKC, and the

owner of the dog is subject to disciplinary action.

It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to be familiar with the rules pertaining to the event in which they are competing. “Dog Show Rules” are available for $6.00 plus GST from the CKC.

Borzoi Canada Borzoi Canada was founded in 1976 by several Borzoi breeders and owners who had a love for the breed and a desire to promote it in Canada. The Objectives of Borzoi Canada are:

• The preservation and protection of the Borzoi breed. • To further and promote the best interests of Borzoi and the owners,

breeders, and exhibitors of purebred Borzoi. • To hold a National Championship Specialty Show each year, alternat-

ing years in the East and West. Regional Specialities may be held one per province per year.

• To hold other Canadian Kennel Club approved events whenever possi-ble.

• To keep the membership informed via the Association newsletter and the Association website of Association activities and any items of par-ticular interest to the Borzoi community.

Jeffery Bazell

Jeff Bazell is the 3rd generation dog show enthusiast. His grandfather bred Black and Tan Coonhounds, his grandmother and father were heav-ily involved in Chow Chows and Jeff finished his first champion, a Pekingese purchased from Nigel Aubrey-Jones, at the age of 9 by win-ning a specialty. His involvement in Brussels Griffon began at age 12 and continues to the present, with over 1000 titled dogs bred, co-bred or shown by the St John Kennel. During the 1980's he bred many champion Newfoundlands including putting multiple group and best in show wins on two male Landseers. He a teenager he showed Afghans for Kay Finch in California, owned and showed many Kingsmark Greyhounds and has international experience with many sighthound breeds. He has been judging for over 25 years and has enjoyed judging all over the world along with his husband, Jeff Kestner. The Jeff’s also have a new found love in the Lancashire Heeler breed and are actively opening a breeding program to help introduce this wonderful breed to North Ameri-ca. Jeff is a garden designer, plant breeder and nursery owner and has won over 100 international design awards including the Queen's Gold Medal for Horticulture. He has been a featured designer at the Floriade in the Netherlands, the Ameriflo-ra in the US and the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show. He has also taught in design schools at the university level and is a former special needs kindergarten teacher.
