With the continued momentum of Lansdale Borough development projects, the South East-ern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) recognizes the need for increased available parking spaces for their most frequently used station on the Lansdale / Doylestown rail line. As a result of research conducted by SEPTA, they have slated construction of a parking garage as well as a pedestrian bridge to increase multimodal circulation and support economic development within the Borough.
As part of their research, SEPTA conducted a sur-vey for Lansdale Station riders to determine where they originated, how riders reached the
station as well as how local growth will affect future parking demand. Results show that riders would park at the station if more parking were available, but without available parking they would continue to access the station by other means. In order to make parking more accessible to riders, the proposed parking garage will offer a total of 899 spaces compared to the existing 590 parking spots.
With an anticipated construction start date of
summer 2015 and expected construction time of eighteen (18) months, there will be some disruption to riders who park at the Lansdale Station. SEPTA is committed to providing alternative parking for riders throughout con-struction; as such they have designated parking at Colmar Station, Ninth Street (temporary or permanent), Pennbrook Station and continue to work with the Borough to locate downtown Lansdale spaces for commuter use.
In addition to plans for the garage and pedestri-an bridge, SEPTA is working with PennDOT and the Borough on a traffic impact study. As the study progresses, SEPTA will continue to work with officials and the public on all traffic improvements.
