Marriage of Figaro, OvertureWolfgang Amadeus Mozart
LESSON PLAN/ACTIVITIES• Show picture of the string family. Explain that the bow is used to make the
strings vibrate and produce sound. A long bowing motion makes a smooth sound and short bowing makes sharp sounds.
• Using one rhythm stick or just arms and hands, have students draw one arm across the other in a bowing movement as if drawing a bow across a violin. Ex-press long/smooth bowing and short/sharp bowing movements
• Shorter accented, sharp sounds represent the talons of the American Kestrel (see following pages). The long smooth music represents a mouse scurrying in the fields
• Discuss a bit about the falcon and its prey.
• Give each student a piece of paper and 2 different colored crayons 1 color represent the mouse (long, smooth music) 1 color is the Kestrel flying, swooping and grabbing with its talons (short accented music)
• Play the music. Have children draw with the crayon representing the different characters as they listen
• Drawings will most likely be abstract
